New Cowboys DC Christian Parker on @1053thefan on how Dallas’ current defensive tackles fit his system: “When I was in Green Bay with (Kenny Clark), he was the best nose (tackle) in football, in my opinion, at doing this style because he plays with good length and he has a good anchor. Quinnen Williams, this is how he played at Alabama.”

Parker on if executing the mental side of his scheme is more important than raw athleticism: “Yes and no. I still think that you want a lot of athletic, fast guys because there are gonna be times where there is space, and you have to eliminate it. We’re not trotting out a YMCA basketball team. We still want to be fast and aggressive, but I will say, there’s a premium on instincts, there’s a premium on the brain."

"At different spots, they have to handle a different mental workload in terms of where their eyes have to be. … You want guys to be able to process those things quickly. But you can’t go out there with just a bunch of height, weight, speed guys, either. This is not an operation where we’re gonna roll the ball out in the Whataburger parking lot and just play 7-on-7. We got to be able to process and do those things the right way.”

When asked about getting a head coaching job in the near future and if the next Cowboys DC is on his current staff: “Yes. I think we have a couple of them. … We definitely have that on the staff.”

Look at my guy, already talking about Whataburger. Hes a real Texan now.

I think McCoy could be the betting favorite at 12. His instincts are one of his calling cards. Pulling out of combine drills may have made it likely (or most likely out of tje defensive players) to drop to us.

I know they have been preaching availability, but I don't think that would really preclude McCoy.

@Risen Star if you had to drop $1000 on who you think the pick at 12 would be, who would be your guess

Schotty also said he doesn't want any redshirt players this year.

So I'm not sure on McCoy anymore. He should be good to go by now, but there will inevitably be a transition to return to speed after being off for so long.

I agree but don't rule out a curveball .....like one of the top 3 safeties. Hell, I'm starting to think Downs may fall to us if he gets past Harbaugh. Positional value plus two other possible safety 1st rounders could drop him a bit.

He has already received medical clearance. In fact, he says he could have played the last few games of the season but chose not to.

McCoy might not be seen as a redshirt though. He should be a full go by his Pro Day. The one to watch was that he should have been a full go by the combine. So right now, Id say that bears watching. However given the timing of his injury, McCoy shouldn't be a red shirt situation

There seens to be some double talking out of his camp. He also said he didn't feel ready for the combine. Granted that is probably his agents advice

This is so refreshing.

Murray was in the wrong gap more than Jerry is in front of a microphone.

Yeah, Parker, we've been trying to tell Jerry this for 20 years, hope you can get through to him.

I am not a psychologist or any other type of certified brain doctor. But i just think linebacker instincts seem like a trait that would be a natural part of a player's makeup after having played the position in many cases from Pop Warner thru middle and high school and on through college.

This type of experience in playing that position should have brought about an almost natural quality of instincts for playing the linebacker position.

BUT last year's Murray, Luafau and James ALL showed NO instinctual ability to play the linebacker position whatsoever.

This display of lack of instincts had absolutely nothing to do with Eberflus's scheme or coaching.
