Parker: There's a premium on instincts

I just want the team to get rid of the football shortbusers.

Instincts, sure. Great, but why can't we go deeper in the mind so we can be more successful?

But let's start with people who are football idiots. The football mouthbreathers. We see them all the time. Cut them now. Your talent can't overcome the fact that your teeth are drying out because you are an idiot...in football and in life.

I'm sick and tired of players who are drafted by the team and then hearing fans say we got a winner.

Start with buidling the core of your team with this premise, and then start looking at supreme talent that puts you over the top. But if you can't build that core that makes you a year over year winner, then your business model is defunct IMO.

Hate to be crass with my analogies, but I feel I may be saying things that most don't want to write, but I hear these opinions and thoughts over and over again.

I am not a psychologist or any other type of certified brain doctor. But i just think linebacker instincts seem like a trait that would be a natural part of a player's makeup after having played the position in many cases from Pop Warner thru middle and high school and on through college.

This type of experience in playing that position should have brought about an almost natural quality of instincts for playing the linebacker position.

BUT last year's Murray, Luafau and James ALL showed NO instinctual ability to play the linebacker position whatsoever.

This display of lack of instincts had absolutely nothing to do with Eberflus's scheme or coaching.
Yeah... I'm with ya. They play in the middle of the formation so you'd think they'd have the most knowledge of what's going on, right? — which is why they get the green dot, usually.

New Cowboys DC Christian Parker on @1053thefan on how Dallas’ current defensive tackles fit his system: “When I was in Green Bay with (Kenny Clark), he was the best nose (tackle) in football, in my opinion, at doing this style because he plays with good length and he has a good anchor. Quinnen Williams, this is how he played at Alabama.”

Parker on if executing the mental side of his scheme is more important than raw athleticism: “Yes and no. I still think that you want a lot of athletic, fast guys because there are gonna be times where there is space, and you have to eliminate it. We’re not trotting out a YMCA basketball team. We still want to be fast and aggressive, but I will say, there’s a premium on instincts, there’s a premium on the brain."

"At different spots, they have to handle a different mental workload in terms of where their eyes have to be. … You want guys to be able to process those things quickly. But you can’t go out there with just a bunch of height, weight, speed guys, either. This is not an operation where we’re gonna roll the ball out in the Whataburger parking lot and just play 7-on-7. We got to be able to process and do those things the right way.”

When asked about getting a head coaching job in the near future and if the next Cowboys DC is on his current staff: “Yes. I think we have a couple of them. … We definitely have that on the staff.”

ONCE YOU START USING THE WORD "PREMIUM' he's sucked in!!!!! He's lost forever, how many times does Jerry say "premium" picks lol, gosh I now had that word!!!!!!

To draft or acquire good players who you could see being coaches in 10 or 15 years, essentially. That would mean you'd see in them a true love for the game — not just because it's fun or because of the money but because they're fascinated by the strategic side of it all, which is the biggest part.

Yeah man.
Murray gave me a version of Linebacker PTSD watching him last year that I still haven't fully recovered from, lol.

Parker is a breath of fresh air.

Last year opposing running backs could watch Sam Williams crash inside and watch Kenneth Murray run away from his gap and run 15 yards before being touched.

Yep, all season long.
I still have bad flashbacks.

I think McCoy could be the betting favorite at 12. His instincts are one of his calling cards. Pulling out of combine drills may have made it likely (or most likely out of tje defensive players) to drop to us.

I know they have been preaching availability, but I don't think that would really preclude McCoy.

@Risen Star if you had to drop $1000 on who you think the pick at 12 would be, who would be your guess
I don't think we will select him even if he's there. He didn't participate in the combine. There are many other corners available even with our 20th pick.

As I said in draft zone, it wouldn’t shock me to see Allen be our Booker type of pick this yr. Big floor player that checks all the boxes

Let's not give certain words Jerry trademarks. I've heard Christian Parker use "process" and despite the flashbacks to Jason Garrett I still believe in him.

CT: I'm not even joking with you right now, if someone (Parker) says "Position Flex" i'm leaving this blog for good, no games played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since Styles will be long gone before the Cowboys pick I'm liking CJ Allen as my first preference linebacker that may be available and then Jacob Rodriguez as a backup plan after him.

trade down and still get rodriguez

How about Jerry saying like exotic pressure to top it off? Welcome to the kama sutra of football.

CJ Allen
Jacob Rodriguez

One of these two needs a star on their helmet
That might happen. How about trade back from 12 and get Dillon Thieneman and trade back from 20 and get Allen or Rodriguez.
