Parlaying Picks

I know it's WAY early, but let's, for a moment, consider that we have a high 1st (top 5) from Cleveland in next years draft.

How great would it be if we moved down a few spots (a la San Diego/NY Giants for Eli) and picked up ANOTHER first the year after?!?!

We would still have two first-rounders with a high first in '08 and again would have 2 picks in '09. Perhaps it could be like '91 and '92 again, where we stock up on picks for a Superbowl run.

I know it takes 2 to tango and we might not be able to trade down, but it would be great if we could pull it off.

Just dreamin.

I would rather see us trade back a little depending on who is there and what we are looking and then pick up 2nd and 3rds

I believe the Chargers ended up with a high 2, a 4 and the next years 1, so I would do that also.

No problem unless we would pass up a blue chipper we need for just a solid pick. But I like the scenario you picked.

I agree 100%.

If there's a big drop off from our spot to the spot we were to trade too, then I say no way to a trade.

BUT, if like the Chargers/Giants trade, the talent is still the same or close (Rivers, Eli...lol @ the Giants) AND you hit the motherlode like the Chargers (Rivers, Merriman and Keading), think how great the Boys could be.

I'm crossing my fingers that this is a top 5 pick. If that is the case, then you're scenario would be phenomenal, and highly likely if another team wants to move up to select a blue chipper. I see no reason why the Browns shouldn't totally suck this coming season, especially if Quinn starts.

However, I quell my optimism with the fact that the Bills screwed us over a couple of years ago, when they made a run. It turned out that our draft pick was higher than the one they gave to us that year. We don't want that scenario.

If for some reason, this winds up being the number 1 pick, which is both possible and probable, then we would have a plethora of trade partners.

Thank goodness for Sunday Ticket. I will be watching the Browns lose when the Cowboys aren't playing.

On a side note. Is Brady Quinn crazy? Would he rather play for the Browns instead of the Cowboys?

I'm totally for trading picks for more picks that improve the following year and increase the number of picks. When u have two no. 1's it's easy to do and then just keep on multiplying them every year there after in just three years or so you could easily mulitply ur picks into two complete drafts of picks. There is always someone wanting to trade. It's a great way to add picks and pretty much painless after the first trade down like we did this year.

Lets say we are at 5. Were not getting mcfadden. So then it makes sense. Trade down, let the Giants move up for Brian Brohm. We still get a player we want(Maybe one of the 2 tackles, Long and Baker Or Steve Slaton) Then get a WR later ect.

Similar to the Pats. Keep making wise trades unless theres a year all your picks your getting value and theres the player you want

Lets just hope Cleveland loses a lot this year so we can have a top 10 pick to make some serious moves if we want to.

The Pats and some of the other good drafting teams also are smart enough to know when to trade away some of their players for future draft picks.

I love Patrick Crayton as our #3 WR, but he'll be a FA next year and certainly looking for starter position/money which might not be available with us IF we keep TO & Glenn for 08 season as well. If our young WRs (Hurd/Austin & Stanbach & even Rector) really have dynamite performances in preseason games, won't be averse to Cowboys trading Crayton if we can get a first day pick.

I also woun't hesitate to trade Ellis (if he clearing shows he's all the way back from achilles injury & if we can get a first day pick) if he and rest of team show we've got more then enough young guns who can consistently produce big time pressures/sacks on the QB. This is probably a pipe dream tho.

Let's just wait and see how Mr. Romo fares before we get talking about next years draft.

I agree. We don't even know what the team will need next year. You can speculate but we don't know.

Sure....

But I don't think its far fetched to say that CB will be a high priority, seeing as how Henry and Glenn are getting up there.

Unless you are willing to bet Courtney Brown plays at a very high level this year.

Same could be said for WR....unless Stanback, Hurd, or Austin have great years, we probably will be looking at WR early as well.

The question marks will be at RB, QB, and OL.....we could develop guys internally....or be looking for replacements next year......or have guys that continue to progress and aren't needed.

I understand what you are saying but by the time the draft comes back around we might have more pressing needs than CB or Wr so I don't quite get the need to speculate so early. At least wait until the season starts or even training camp.

That's a great example for what I'm talking about. Even just dropping out of the blue chip market is enough for me.
