Here is my review of Parnell at RT against the Giants.

They ran behind him often and he can really drive the DE out of the area with power. His pass blocking was good enough.

Red - Fail
Gray - Undetermined or could do better.

The key now is to see what improvement he makes from week to week. I think he will and still think he is our RT next season.

How do you feel about him compared to Free? Do you think we should stick with one of them or draft early next year? Personally, I think drafting O-line is a crap shoot. I think more early round O-linemen are busts than any other position. We really good super lucky with our 3 picks these past 4 years. I don't know if the luck will continue. People forgot how hard drafting O-linemen is because we've been doing so well at it lately.

Thanks for the work X.

After watching every play from Parnell vs the Giants, what is your take on how he did? I know you wrote up each play, but what overall impression did it leave you with?

I'll tell you how he feels about Parnell vs Free.

Parnell >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Free > Jello.

Sounds like Free has a decent chance to return vs Arizona so Monday could be Parnell's last shot to make a lasting impression.

Yes, I don't know what they're going to do next season. I certain that somebody would give him a chance to be a starter if the Cowboys don't.

Overall he was more than good enough to win with. He had Zero sacks in only his 2nd ever start at OT on any level of football. He pushed the DE around with ease on power type running plays.

If a Cowboys DE had been pushed around like what Parnell did to the Giants DE, we would be very unhappy with that player.

Compared to Free:
They are very different players. Free obviously has a lot of experience but is not powerful. Parnell lacks experience but is very powerful. Both have quick feet and both are big.

I don't see a significant difference between them in Pass Protection. The Giants almost got Parnell with a stunt once, but Free has been beaten by stunts this season so not that much different. Parnell needs to push the outside rusher just a little deeper, but it's not a big deal at RT because Romo can see him and just take a step forward.

In run blocking, Free is better as a backside blocker on the Zone Runs where you have to make a reach block. Free is slightly better at finding the LB on 2nd level blocking. These things are all about timing and recognition.

Parnell is better on any blocks that require power. He is really powerful and they (Linehan) obviously know it because they ran right behind him many times against the Giants. Free is really below average for an NFL OT in terms of drive blocking against DLinemen.

Parnell can continue to get better while Free is as good as he's going to get.

Next Year:
Even If you drafted a 1st round OT, I don't think he would play any better as a rookie than Parnell played against the Giants. I don't see both Free and Parnell being re-signed. Parnell can start for somebody.

Summary:
We'll see how Parnell does in this next game, but based on the Giants game I would re-sign him now and just let Free move on after the season. It really opens up the playbook being able to run power right again.

I've been rooting for Parnell to step up for a couple seasons, mostly because of your optimism.

I'd love to lock up Jermey Parnell for a few more years at a reasonable rate and let Doug Free walk in free agency.

Jason Garrett said it himself, Parnell can get so much better by actually playing the game and learning.

It is one game.

I think he did extremely well, much better than I thought.

But there is difference between appreciating his best performance in his career versus handing him an extension.

Great work. I know how much time it takes to do this so thanks very much. Sounds like a couple of bad plays. We knew his run blocking would be good to better but I'm happy with his pass blocking.

This isn't based on one game.

It's based on the four years Jermey Parnell has been with the team.

He's transformed from a college basketball player who played one year (5 games) of defensive line into an offensive tackle in the NFL.

Parnell didn't even play football in high school, he quit after the eighth grade to focus on basketball.

He was supposed to challenge Dog Free at RT last year and never got the chance because of an injury.

He played LT in camp this year on the fly when Darrion Weems went down.

Now he's back at RT.

Dude just needs to play.

I appreciate it man.

It will be interesting to see what defenses will do after they have a game or two of film on Parnell. He does look strong to me too, but I want to see him hold up a few games before I make a judgement on him and Free.

In a way, that would be to our benefit. They can see what he is.

But again, one game. Encouraging as it was.

One other point on Jermey Parnell.

He was part of the reason the team felt comfortable pushing Doug Free to take a $7M pay cut the past two seasons.

Dallas was prepared to release Free using the June tag last year and go with Parnell as the starter based off what they saw in 2012 when the duo alternated series in four December games.

That demonstrates the Cowboys have confidence in Parnell.

He's still unproven and the next game might be his last, but Parnell has accomplished a lot to get to this point and I like the upside he brings.

This team should stick with Parnell (warts and all throughout the season) unless he becomes a glaring hole of incompetence. Free has been holding back this team for too long. Romo quotes him (specifically;) for being unstable) and we're STILL talking about working around him? Get him off the team next season with either Parenll or a draft pick (long time coming).
