Parson vs CB at 10

Remove all other options for sake of argument.

Parson and Surtain or Horn likely the highest rated Defensive player at 10. Most mock us to pick a CB.

I always believe player closer to the LOS makes a bigger impact. Therefore, I want Parson over a CB since neither are rebirth of Deon Sanders.

Convince me why we should take a CB at 10 instead.
Parson, Surtain or Horn...yikes!!! That's a tough decision. Dallas needs a MLB badly, and a guy with an attitude who can set the tone for the group. I believe Parsons can bring a spark.

Horn is that type of player too, but I it's just different with a MLB. Also, if Dallas gets Parsons plus a solid NT (McNeil, Wilson, Brown, whoever) does wonders for your run defense.

I think Detroit takes Parsons tho.

given our needs across the board on defense. I would consider trading down and still end up with one of those 3.

....but I don't see Parson's with anywhere close to S.Lee instincts, are they really that much better than Jaylons?
Good point, I have to admit only seeing a few highlight reels on youtube. But that also goes for all of the other choices, since I don't follow the college games too much.

I'm sure there are better folks than I that actually watch college games, so I can only give my choice a limited view age basis.

I played LBer, so yeah of course I agree that it is the most important position.

Make Jaylon a speed pass rusher behind Gregory and be done with him as a LB, he just doesn't have the instincts.
So we have a $60 million situational pass rusher because he can’t play LB? Let’s just admit the mistake with 54 and move on.

Really hoping for a post June 1st cut on this one. It's defeinitely time to move on.

I don't disagree, with the cap hit I would try him at DE, if it doesn't work out in pre-season I wouldn't be opposed to cutting him prior to our first game.

A high end CB is harder to find. We probably wont be picking this high for a while. Even though we got a good one last year in the 2nd I see that more as a outlier situation. They are also harder to find in FA and require a high price tag if there is one. So your getting a more rare position and wrapping up that savings on a higher end position for at least 5 years. And finally the drop off with our current CB is extremely high.

However I do agree that a stud MLB like Parsons is EXACTLY what this defense needs and a stud MLB can be a game changer up the middle.

Agreed on closer to LOS.....and I'll raise you a level.

The pick should be Azeez Ojulari.

They won't do it, because they want to play things safe and sell contention every year, but he would be the best they can do at 10 IMO.

I personally don't see them passing on Surtain if he is there, and probably will be. He is a safe pick, but not a top 10 talent. The kid will make this call and the safe route is the selection.

Then Jerry gets his swing for the fence pick at 44....and whoever it is miraculously had a first round grade on them.

Yep, seen the movie. Its cute.

The thing is he can really play. The guy was a beast in 2018. He got that contract and just quit. He is all about brand building for after football. No dawg in him at all.

i love surtain.
but if parsons is there...i would take him.

When you watch the film on Parsons you see a guy with great instincts that lives in the backfield shooting the gap and recognizing the run and hitting it. He has all the instincts you want and also doesnt get blocked by backs. He runs over them. He also runs a 4.39 40 at 6-3 246 pounds and runs guys down from sideline to sideline.

He is the PERFECT MLB. The only thing that scares me is the one great year and didnt play ball last year.

He has issues with instincts and shedding blocks, which is the same issue we have with Jaylon Smith. Not to mention off field issues. Parsons isn't even my LB 1. I have JOK and Zaven Collins ahead of Parsons.

Thank you for making that argument. Ceiling for Parson is higher but so is bust factor. Can't disagree there.
Making an excuse for Parson is that he really only played LB for past 2 years. He was playing DE and S until he got to college and made All American as a true freshman.

I might take Parsons before Surtain, not Horn though. The gap year is worrisome. I think Jerry wants Surtain but Horn is the more physical guy.

I wonder which is true. Surtain is so smooth that he make it look easy. Horn is more sudden but he's so grabby that he's gonna get multiple PIs.

You would be wrong my cowboy brother. We have been getting burnt by the run for the last 10 seasons. Give me a middle linebacker a defensive tackle and a strong safety. We’ve been lacking that for years

So true. We've been neglecting the middle for some time. If you can't stop the run in NFL you'll lose almost everytime.

They both fill needs. They’re both top prospects. But my experience is you go with the corner.

All 3 .. Surtain, Horn and Parsons should be sitting there at 10 and one of them should be the pick. I'm really OK with any one of them at this point. Leaning towards Surtain if all 3 are on the board.

Surtain is suppose to be the safest pick but I wonder if a 2nd round CB (deep class) can accomplish the same in our torrid secondary.
