We had what, 6 or 7 sacks yesterday and still gave up passes all over the field? Did the 4-3 help get us more sacks? Looks like it but our coverage was miserably the same.

Does anybody believe De-Nightmare94 can play DE all day for 16+ weeks? We know he can average at least 2 sacks a game if he rushes all day but can his body keep up that pace for a full season given the fact that he doesn't weigh as much as a typical DE? I don't know but my guess would be no. I still think he would make an awesome middle linebacker, we know he can cover better than James not to mention tackle faster players. I just hate limiting our best athelete to one side of the field..

Playing Detroit helped us get more sacks. They had already given up over 50 on the season before we even played them. I'm not sure the 4-3 helped or not.

I'd be curious as to the breakdown of 4-3/3-4 in the game, but I'll have to wait to download it before I can make any assessments (because sopcast blows).

Edit: Oh, and weren't you the yahoo that wanted Ware to play MLB?

Last I looked, Strahan is the same size as Ware and has been a dominant force for over a decade.

Freeny is smaller.

Bert Berry is just a few pounds heavier and Ware will grow into that weight as he matures.

Jason Taylor is the same size.

Strahan weighed 20 pounds more than Ware most of his career. He just recently lost weight to gain speed.

Since he was hurt most of the year not sure that helped:)

Now Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney however .....

In the end good players will be good wherever.

Strahan was never a big, over powering type of DE.

I guess what I'm saying is, ya don't have to be 6-5 280 to play DE.

Ware goes about about 260. If he was 240 I'd understand the concern.

I just kinda see this the same as "You can't have just one RB carrying the load anymore in the NFL" type of stuff. The vast majority of teams have just one RB carrying the load.

I see the "Ware is too small and will wear down" as the same thing.

Hey, Happy New Year JT.

There really is no controversy at all, be it a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme, a great consistent pass rush makes an average secondary look great, that is simply a fact, ask New England.

We got to Kitna some yesterday, but not on a consistent basis, there were times yesterday he had time to smoke before throwing the ball.

Line Ware up on the other side so he is going at the QB's face every single down much like Strahan.

The Lions had 3 rookie Olineman in that game for us to fatten our sack stats with. That stated when it counted they pass protected well enough to put 39 points on the board.

I just hate limiting our best athlete by asking him to play in pass coverage instead of rush the QB. For 10 years we have been trying to replace Haley and when we finally do, we ask him to play in pass coverage???

Juke you the man and all, but this is about as miscast as it comes. Strahan has always been an over-powering DE. Ask Jon Runyan. Stra sets up the speed rush with bull and club moves. Check some old game film, Strahan played the majority of his career at 275 lbs. Comparing him to DWare is nonsense.

Stahan's never been a big DE. His game, regardless of how he sets it up, is speed.

and perhaps he's not a great example but my point is, you don't have to be a moose to play DE.

But if Strahan played at 275...ya think Ware can't bulk up to 270. He'll grow naturally. He's just a kid.

My point is, we're not talking about a guy with Burnett's physique. Ware is naturally big.

Hey...happy New Year...btw.

why do folks think the 4-3 is the answer?

we haven't rushed the QB well since Haley was here. I see SD getting tons of sacks in the 3-4. We just need Spears and Canty to get a push or get replaced.

I'm not sure if it's the answer or not, but here are a few reasons why it could be better:

1. Ware would be rushing the passer more often.
2. Hatcher, who seems to be the only other pass-rusher, is on the field more.
3. Spears and Canty can't get the job done from the 3-4.

The problem I see is that we have been switching to a four man line on third downs all season, yet we haven't been able to get pressure then.

I actually agreee w/ this. We know he's gonna get double teamed...let the double-team come from his face side so he has to backup/backpeddle. That can help the pass rusher on the otherside.

Seemed to be how Ware got a lot of his sacks early w/ Ellis in there. Basically Ellis provided the push and the QB had no choice but to step back into Ware's path?

Happy New Year to you also big fella. :)

Strahan's game was always a power game. Think about the great battles with Runyan and Eric Williams. They were power games. The thing that made Strahan great was his speed and power. He used them both well. I guess when I say power, I'm also talking about playing the LDE position. On his side, you have to play the run as pass well. I don't Strahan has ever had problems with the run. He is pretty much an all around DE. While I think Ware can play the RDE, he would never be able to play the LDE in a 4-3.

FYI, Ware is not Strahan big. Strahan is in the mold of Bruce Smith and The Great Reggie White. Ware is more of a Charles Haley type DE. It's just my opinion, but Haley would not be able to play LDE. Haley nor Ware would be able to 'bulk up' to Strahan's natural size. Strahan had to go on a lifestyle change (ie extensive dieting) to lose all the weight. Ware on the other hand can not maintain his weight from the start of the season until the end. No way Ware 'bulks up' to 270 and not lose his game. He is not a natural big guy. He played WR in high. Auburn would not draft him as he was 190 lbs as a freshman.

32 sacks in a season? Nobody can average 2 sacks a game.
