Tell me it's not refreshing to have a pass rush that gets after the QB. I feel like we have been in the twilight zone these past several years,...BUT WE'RE BACK BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont beat me up over this. We didnt get real pressure until we blitzed. The front 4 or 3 whichever was being run was not getting much done w/o a blitzer coming into the mix.

Still. This D is learning. Its going to adapt and overcome its youth. I can see it. Watch out when they get it together.

You gotta give SD some credit. That line plays well together and is one of the best in the NFL. We probably should have gotten a bit more pressure on him though. I think we still had 2 or 3 sacks.

I really think the pass rush will get better as the season progresses. As the D starts to gel, as they feel more comfortable w/the scheme, and as they get accustomed to playing together as a team the rush will improve.

Demarcus definetely didn't dominate the way he was against second and third stringers in the pre season. Hopefully he can put it together because I really want him to be a force in the pass rush...

He actually did a very good job against first teamers in the preseason, and he did a very good job today. He simply came up against a QB who could step up in the pocket to avoid his rush. If we had ANY pressure up the middle he would have had at least 2 sacks, but we were unable to generate any kind of push inside.

:hammer: They will go back watch film and correct the mistakes, it is a learning process.

We were getting there but our anxiousness worked against us a couple of times; most of those whiffs will result in sacks when the game starts to slow for the rookies and the defense as a whole gels.

Dont forget

I cant count how many times SD was bringing in an extra lineman just for pass protection. Troy and Buck were saying it pretty regular. Says alot about our D. It did have SD's attention. Maybe we were doing something right on D.

Good point, they played with an extra offensive tackle a lot of the game from the sound of it.

It's kinda hard to not get to the QB in a 3/4 defense if you don't blitz......

Remember these stats: San Diego only allowed Brees to be sacked 18 times total last year, and only once did they allow more that 2 sacks in a single game. Add to these stats the fact that we were a hairs width away from several other sacks and you kinda get a little excited.

Chicago's DLine is pretty good but Washington is going to have games that are defensive slugfests like that all year.

I agree 100%. Our pass rush wasn't great. It was average, if that. Our pass rush needs to get much better then it is now.

I know what you mean, it was pretty intense from my sofa too, lol.
:D
Near misses kills me but Brees did an excellent job of stepping up and showing the DL the "ghost" when they got near him. With pratice I will be surprised if we don't do better.

I though we were ordinary today even when we blizted. Good thing we have 3/4 of a great secondary to cover ourselves. I do agree we should get better as the season rolls along. To really be a shut down D we need to get consistent pressure without blitzing. It looked like we were pushing the panic button all 4th quarter today. Some day we will get burnt doing that.

Patience BD.......trust me the rush will be there. Remember the first time to run this new scheme in a real game.

We simply have too much talent for it not to be there. again patience my friend

Something else to think about, SD OL is not chopped liver; they all returned and their chemistry was apparent especially when they passed defensive lineman and blocked to the second lvl.
