Ah, you're right, sort of. It was the ACL and the MCL, which is a much bigger deal (patellar tendon is gross, because the kneecap slides up into the quad, but it's not a big deal in terms of stabilization). But he tore the ACL and the MCL, and the MCL is a biggie.

Archer states otherwise.

Dunbar suffered a serious knee injury in Week 4 last year while returning a kickoff against the New Orleans Saints. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a partially torn medial collateral ligament and a torn patellar tendon

The patellar tendon was repaired in October and then the ACL in December. One type of comeback from those surgeries is difficult enough. Coming back from two will test Dunbar's fortitude.

Interesting. I didn't see that in the other sources I looked at, so I stand corrected. With multiple ligaments, yeah, it's a much bigger deal. Any idea on the partial tear of the MCL? They probably repaired it when they went in for the ACL, I'd assume.

I've blown my ACL multiple times. They took a strip from the patellar ligament to stabilize it, and at the time explained that the IPL is actually thicker and hardier than it really needs to be so borrowing a bit from it for the ACL was fine. But blowing the MCL and the ACL together pretty much takes out all the directional support for the entire knee. I think repairing the IPL is just sewing the ends of the ligament back in place to hold the kneecap there and the quad down. I suppose that can be challenging if you end up shortening it a bit, but I don't imagine it's a problem on the order of the ligaments that stabilize for vertical or lateral motion.

At some point, it doesn't matter, though. He blew it out good, and you're right that his return is a lot bigger deal than just coming back from an ACL.

I do believe this team is going to draft someone this season which is why an Alfred Morris signing just puzzles me unless he is competing with McFadden.

Why?

Because it will just show how simple this offense is. We will carry four running backs going into the year and while Dunbar is a position all to himself, we will just be letting teams know we are passing when he is on the field which bothered me last season. Oh well, maybe it's just me...injuries will happen and if we plan on running the ball a lot, might as well have 4 capable backs.

Dallas can easily cut (or possibly trade) Dunbar if a drafted back proves to be better since Dunbar only signed a one-year deal.

I would think Morris comes closer to getting a deal like we gave to McFadden, meaning he could probably be cut, too, without too much of a cap hit. However, I think Dallas will keep him to rotate with McFadden and be insurance in case McFadden is injured.

I look at it from the standpoint of last year. Morris is a back who is proven he can start and carry a load. That's better than any back we had last year outside of McFadden, and McFadden was brought in following three years of mediocrity (compared to one for Morris).

A lot of that is Scheme. They drafted him to work in Shannahan's Offense and in his first two seasons, in that offense, he was great. The change of the scheme and the decline of the OL is what has hurt Morris IMO. He did not have a great season last year but honestly, the Commanders OL was not all that either. I like the Cowboys bringing him in and taking a look. I think he could be one of those guys who nobody is really paying much attention to who might surprise.

FWIW, Just got thru watching ESPN NFL Insiders, where Adam Shefter was reporting Morris's visit with the Cowboys, and thinks Morris would be a good fit in with Dallas's ZB scheme, but Bill Polian questions Morris's lack of acceleration thru the hole, and he is not as explosive as Murray.

If he can not get through the hole, I'd imagine the team will make an evaluation and just not sign him. He's only been in the league for four years but then again, he was never overly fast to begin with.
