Moss’ Roster Spot on Pats Could be in Jeopardy
Posted by Matt Loede under New England Patriots

Could Patriots wide out Randy Moss possibly not even make the teams roster? It may sound crazy, but sources are saying that the Pats are actually considering releasing Moss, even before he plays a down in New England. The amazing thing is while Moss has forever had to answer questions about his attitude and his off the field behavior, this time his release might be due to something physical, as his hamstring has forced him to miss quite a bit of time as of late. The thing that the Pats have to consider is that he is worth $2.5 mil on this seasons roster if he is on the team opening day, and of course that would be money that New England could use elsewhere if Moss is not on the team.

The teams current wide out roster consists of: Dant’e Stallworth, Wes Welker, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, Kelley Washington, Bam Childress, Kelvin Kight, Chris Dunlap, and C.J. Jones. (Chad Jackson and Troy Brown are still on the PUP list.) While thinking that Moss and Stallworth would be a solid 1-2 punch at wide out, and they would, the Pats are always very wise about distractions, and if they think that Moss at some point would be that, then they would likely rather have him off the team than on it. Would Moss get picked up elsewhere? More than likely. There are plenty of teams that would look at Moss and make him the number one or two reciever on their team. The Dolphins, Eagles, Panthers, Vikings (if they would have him back, which likely wouldn’t happen), and the team that was going to trade for Moss - Green Bay, would all take a look at the former Viking and Raider.

Last season with the Raiders, Moss caught 42 passes for 553 yards and scores. Many felt that coming to New England, Moss would be a great fit for QB Tom Brady. That might very well be the case, but of course he has to make the team first. Sources say that the team is very happy with some of their current wide outs that are taking the field right now, with Stallworth leading the way, and Wes Walker also being another nice addition. Moss at 30 years old may be on the downside of his career, and a release from New England may just show that Moss is not as great as he or others around the league thinks he is.

I could care less what condition his hamstring is currently in. That would be THE dumbest move ever. Why cut a player of his caliber who might recover well before the playoffs? Doesn't make much sense. They already knew of his attitude. They made their bed (like we did) and they should lie in it to the bitter end.

If he gets released and im the Jets i'd be all over that.

When Moss comes to play he is one of the few guys in the league who can single handedly beat a team.

If that is the case, Jones should scoop him up in a heartbeat.

I know, I know this isn't Madden, but Moss would be excellent WR insurance even if he needs a couple weeks to rest up. T.O. Glenn and Moss would be UNSTOPPABLE in 3 WR sets.

Maybe 5 years ago.

That's no longer the case.

Moss has not been that guy in a long time.

Actually, if he's released and the Packers don't jump on him in a heartbeat, I fear Brett Favre may have a coronary. :laugh1:

He should take a Vicodin if that were to happen. Oh, wait... is Vicodin effective for heart attacks? Maybe someone should tell Favre about that before...

Too late. :(

I don't see it happening, but if it did Greenbay would be the most likely to happen. I can't see Philly or Minny going that route. Childress was with Philly when they had TO and I don't see either team wanting that headache with the vikes knowing all too well about Moss.

If anyone knows the Patriots better than the Cowboys, it certainly is Nors!

The guy still ran a 4.3 40 and if he still has his hops then the only thing that can really stop him is him.

If Moss can stay healthy and play hard I think hes got about 3 more dominant years left in him.

If he doesn't try then what you see is what you get.

Im expecting a big year from him in New England if he makes the team lol.
