Patriots announced they released WR Brandon Lloyd.

Well that was short lived. Brady will have no receivers to throw to this year barring draft picks. He's a veteran receiver who can still play. Someone will snatch him up pretty quick I'd assume.

Man, they've hit real trust in the system over there. Must be nice.

Lloyd has great hands and catches everything, he can also get deep. He won't be on the market long. Not sure why the Pats let him go.

because he drops 50% of what is thrown to him, and he has no YAC. He's mediocre in their system.

Really? Lloyd is known for his hands and circus catches. I didn't know he drops a lot of balls especially not 50%. That's news to me.

Id be on the phone trying to peddle Austin to them for a 3rd.

I doubt anyone would give more than a 4th or 5th for Austin. Too much of an injury liability.

I live in New England. Being Patriots WR and dropping a ball never ever turns out well.

Dropping balls as a reciever shouldn't turn out well anywhere, not just NE. I really didn't know he dropped a lot of balls.

Didn't we just restructure him? If so I don't think we could afford the cap hit atm.

As many things as the Patriots do right as an organization, wide receiver ain't one of them. They haven't developed a wide receiver out of the draft and most of the guys they sign as free agents don't do well long term except for Wes Welker. I guess the success they had with Welker and the production they get from the tight end position maybe off sets that. I think if they had another dependable wide receiver the last couple of years, they may have another Superbowl win.

http://scores.nbcsports.msnbc.com/fb/leaders.asp?range=AFC&type=Receiving&rank=232&year=

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/receiving/sort/receivingTargets

Lloyd dropped 6 in 2012 and he was targeted 130 times. That is one drop for every 21.67 passes thrown his way.

Wes Welker dropped 9 passes and he was targeted 174 times. That is one drop for every 19.33 passes thrown his way.

As a comparison, look at Dez Bryant. He had 9 drops on 138 targets or one drop every 15.33 passes headed his direction.

Shouldn't this stat be drops per catchable balls or something like that?

Good thing you're not the GM because that would be a horrible move.

Horrible for whom? I'd take a 3rd for Austin in a heartbeat.
