Leading up to last nights game, there was alot of talk about the level of our opponents and their horrible records. But, go deeper inside the numbers and take a look at it again, and see who played the lesser schedule to this point. Here is the Pats 5 opponents and their overall defensive rankings to this point, vs the Cowboys....

Wk. 1 @NYJ ranked 28th overall defense 367ypg 27th in points allowed at 27.6ppg

Wk. 2 SD ranked 22nd overall defense 340ypg 19th in points allowed at 21ppg

Wk.3 Buff ranked 31st overall defense 421ypg 22nd in points allowed at 23.6ppg

Wk.4 @Cinn ranked 30th overall defense at 403ypg 32nd in points allowed at 32.2ppg

Wk. 5 Cle. ranked 32nd overall defense at 424ypg 30th in points allowed at 30.4

By my count they have played 4 of the 5 worst defenses in the NFL as far as ypg goes. And 3 of the 6 worst in ppg. Since it's obvious I am a numbers guy, if you looked at the game on paper and the teams on paper, we are nearly identical, even more so if you view the Giants game in wk 1 an aboration of our defense.... We can definately hang with this team. They have beaten up on worse teams than we have.

To be fair, I think you have to take the Pats yards against them out of the average.

Same with the points. The pats put up some big points against those teams skewing the ppg stats.

SD 16.7 ppg 10th overall
Buff 20.0 ppg 17th overall
NYJ 25 ppg 24th overall
Cle 29.5 ppg 29th overall
CIN 31.6 ppg 32nd overall

Again still 3 or 4 that are just as bad or worse than who we've played...

Good info. I knew they had played some bad teams, but I didn't realize they were that bad. Thanks for doing the math.

I just hope Romo last night was an aborration. We ask the kid to do so much, its really not fair sometimes. We really need to get the running game clicking to take some of the pressure of him.

Nice work!

Every game in this league is winnable or loseable. The Pats are tough because they limit mistakes (Brady is highly unlikely to throw 2 picks a game, let alone 3 to 5). Also Randy Moss is a Cowboys killer and always has been. If we can stop Moss, I think we are as good as Patriots. They are a little more veteran and used to playing this type of games than this fairly young Cowboys team is.
