Sources: Camera confiscated after claims of Pats spying on Jets

NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, sources said.
The camera and its tape were placed in a sealed box and forwarded to the league office for investigation, the sources said.

"We don't have any comment," an NFL spokesman said Monday.

The Patriots' cameraman was suspected of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches who were sending signals to their unit on the field, the sources said. The league also is investigating some radio frequency issues that occurred during the game.

The league's competition committee could conduct a conference call about the incident, which violates NFL policy, and ultimately recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if it verifies that the team was spying on the Jets.

"It's not their first time," a member of the committee, who did not wish to be identified, said.

In fact, Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan confirmed a similar incident that occurred when the Patriots played at Lambeau Field last Nov. 19. The same cameraman who was questioned by NFL security on Sunday was also the one whom the Packers removed from the sideline and escorted from the field during their 2006 game, according to Packers security official Doug Collins.

"From what I can remember, he had quite a fit when we took him out," Harlan said. "We had gotten word before the game that they [the Patriots] did this sort of thing, so we were looking for it."

A Jets official declined comment Monday, directing an inquiry to the league office. The Patriots also did not have immediate comment.

Very Belickish. Yet, unwarranted. They probably have the best team in the league.

What ya got to say about that Peter King?!

I enjoy his MMQB column each week but his man love for Belichik and the Pats is sickening. There are 32 teams in the league yet he invariably talks about the Pats every week.

I just heard this on radio, and somehow it didn't surprise me a bit.

If they're guilty, which I wouldn't doubt at all, I hope the NFL hits them hard.

the pats have been suspected of cheating since the SB they robbed from Stl

I never liked the Pats, never will, and hope they lose more than draft picks if they are cheating. I think they should forfeit all games for the entire season. I hate everything about them, i hate all that they do. And it aint cause there so called "Great"

haha u basically summed up the same amount of hate that i have for the Pats as well. i hated the Pats even back when Bledslow was their starter. i think it started from me hating northeast teams and it just grew from there!

If they are truly cheating by stealing calls, then forfeiting draft picks is certainly not enough. If they cheated in that game, they should forfeit it period. And maybe they should be barred from the playoffs this season. This is something that IMO if proven true is very very serious. It goes to the integrity of the game. What a big scar on Belichik's legacy that would be.

They paid the refs off, to ingore blatant fouls, and penitlies, and run the final second off the clock after there kick.

I have a feeling it'll get swept under the rug, though. I can just hear Berman and Co. comparing it to stealing signs in baseball.

Yeah, I don't see why this would really surprise anyone. That team has the entire world wrapped around their fingers, and I have a hard time liking Belichick and some of those players. They seem sneaky, disloyal, and everything else.

Actually, it has surprised me that things of this nature haven't come up before...With technology the way it is these days, it's a bit surprising that the level of espionage isn't of the highest caliber.

IF the Pats are indeed found guilty of this, I do hope the NFL comes down hard as well...Shame, really...Sports across the board has been rampant with corruption

It sounds like you disagree with that rationale as would I. It's one thing if a team is running in signals and the other team can look and read what's going on. It's another thing if a team surreptitiously attempts to steal signals. That's messing around with the integrity of the game IMO. It's similar to point shaving or taking performance enhancing drugs. It should be met with the strictest of punishment.
