1. CB Eli Apple, Ohio State - Apple timed 4.40 seconds in the 40 after measuring just over 6-feet and 199 pounds. The time quieted some of the concerns scouts had about his long speed. Apple later looked terrific in drills, displaying a smooth backpedal and the ability to quickly flip his hips in transition. He cemented himself as a top-20 pick.

2. CB William Jackson, Houston - When all is said and done, Jackson helped himself more than any other defensive back on Monday. He timed the 40 in the mid-4.3s, measured over 6-feet tall and looked natural in all the drills. His backpedal, ability to flip his hips and explode to the ball came second nature to Jackson, who moved into the top half of the second round.

3. CB Jonathan Jones, Auburn - Jones was the fastest defensive back of the day, timing in the high 4.2s on a number of watches. He looked equally athletic and fast during drills. Like William Jackson, Jones effortlessly moved throughout all the drills with efficiency and little wasted movement. His terrific Combine performance comes off the heels of a very good Senior Bowl week and Jones’ stock is on the rise.

4. DB DeAndre Houston-Carson, William & Mary - The small-school prospect is another who capitalized on a solid Senior Bowl week with a good Combine performance. His 40 time in the low 4.5s was better than expected and Houston-Carson looked good in all the drills. He displayed solid ball skills and was fluid in his hips and backpedal.

5. CB Anthony Brown, Purdue - Brown was not highly rated entering the year, but has been on a tear since January. He followed up a terrific showing at Shrine Game week with an outstanding Combine workout. Brown’s times in the 40 clocked in the low-to-mid 4.3s while his vertical jump came in at 35 inches. Brown kept the momentum going and looked sharp in position drills.

6. CB Justin Burris, North Carolina State - Scouts had major questions about the long speed of Burris,

Look for Dallas to draft William Jackson III in the 2nd round.

I love the kid but he may very well go in the end of the first after his solid combine effort.

Plus, we have no idea if Ramsey is an option at #4, probably San Diego takes him but you never know in the draft.

Really like Jackson, but like mentioned above, I doubt he makes it to 34. Of course they could probably trade up around 5-8 spots for their 4th if he or anyone else they really likes is there. I wouldn't want it, but thats the kind of thing they might consider.

Really sucks for us that Jackson had a spectacular combine.

If I were a GM, if I traded down to say 11-15 in the first round, I reach and grab Jackson. If Hargreaves (Who I've grown less and less impressed with) can be rated top 15, I see no reason why Jackson can't be. Would you guys be disappointed if we reached and grabbed him?

He's my favorite player in the first round

Artie Burns had a good day too...I'd be happy with Jackson, Apple, or Burns in the 2nd. Jackson is probably the most ready to play right away though. The other 2 may need some time to develop, but have very high ceilings.

Apple: 4.4 40, 6' tall, smooth back pedal with ability to quickly flip hips...cemented top 20 pick

Jackson: mid 4.3 40, 6' tall, backpedal, ability to flip his hips and explode to the ball came second nature...top half of round 2...
I know there must be something that makes one a first rounder and the other a second rounder, but these "scouting reports" can be pretty worthless at times, IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. Williams is faster, taller and his highlight tape is phenomenal (he is great at high-pointing the ball), and he only rose to the top half of the second round?

Must be an OSU-Houston perception, but with the way teams need corners (tall, fast ones with quick hips at that to match up with bigger receivers), William Jackson III isn't going to make it out of the first round.

I betcha the Steelers snag him up, proving once again how smart they are at drafting players.

I don't watch college ball, I just don't have the time and even if I did, I don't think that one game would make that much difference in an evaluation of him (not that I could properly evaluate him, anyways). I just don't think that some of these writers ever edit themselves based on some of the stuff I see them write.

Level of competition was the only thing I could come up with myself...(I'm a Houston Alum so I know first hand they're no OSU).

That may be true, but he has the measurables - height, speed, size. And then you watch his tapes, and he's skying over receivers to catch the ball. Those skills are translatable.

It would be one thing if he had 4.7 speed and was beasting in his inferior conference. You could say, the guys he was playing against weren't that good. But when you run a 4.3, that's ELITE SPEED that can keep up with NFL talent. And then you take his height AND his leaping ability AND the fact that he has quick hips?

Heck, if you have need for a corner, you snap him up quicker than you can say crackle.

Everything you say makes absolute sense. My thought was, if this guy is a second rounder, as that report stated he was, then I have a real hard time not taking him in the top of round 2 if I'm JJ. I don't know much about much, but I suspect he will be a first round pick and we won't get within sniffing distance of him.

IMO, he's the Carson Wentz of cornerbacks. If a team is going to take Wentz high in the draft based on his measureables DESPITE the fact he went to North Dakota State, then a team has to take WJIII in the first DESPITE the fact he went to UH, which played better competition than NDS.
