1. Showered with praise after three very good days of practice and a solid showing in the Senior Bowl game, quarterback Carson Wentz was even more impressive in closed-door meetings with coaches and general managers. I’m told he knocked it out of the park during interviews as personnel people around the league who interviewed Wentz were awed by his knowledge of X’s and O’s. The belief is the North Dakota State product, who was a 4.0 student in college, should have no problem running a multiple formation offense on Sundays and coaches love his upside.

2. Though he didn’t attend the Senior Bowl, Christian Hackenberg is another signal-caller whose upside potential excites NFL decision-makers. Some eyebrows were raised when Hackenberg left for the NFL Draft after two dismal seasons, but the situation at Penn State was untenable for him. He offers the physical skills to start on Sunday and teams truly believe with proper coaching he’ll reach his potential in the NFL, something Hackenberg would’ve never achieved on the college level. No one I’ve spoken with in the past two months believes Hackenberg will drop out of the draft’s top 75 picks.

3. Is it possible two quarterbacks will be top five selections in April? The answer from league insiders is “yes” with Carson Wentz and Jared Goff filling theslots. Wentz is watching his draft stock move north after the Senior Bowl and many believe the Combine is the perfect setting for Goff to show off his talents. Assuming he participates in Combine workouts, one insider told me they expect Goff to, “throw the hell out of the ball and be on the mark with all his passes.”

4. Contrary to Wentz and Goff there’s little excitement for Connor Cook. I took flak from Michigan State fans last week after posting teammates were “less than effusive in their praise” of the quarterback, but scouts and insiders I spoke with in Mobile said the situation surrounding Cook’s personality poses a problem for them. The fact he chose not to attend the Senior Bowl further complicates the situation and it’s something Cook will be grilled about during the Combine.

So getting back to Wentz, if a QB has to have one trait, it understanding the offense and making adjustments in this offense. I am liking what I am reading so far.

I don't know who it was on this board but one of the members was a Michigan State fan and when someone brought this type of stuff up they went ballistic and said it was all made up and nobody was really saying it.

Well this is not the first time I have read this type of stuff about Cook and IIRC some of the guys on the Draft Show in at least one episode said the they Heard that Cooks attitude was terrible and turned a lot of guys off.

True or not...the word is out there on him.

In addition to his tremendous work at the Senior Bowl, North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz was "even more impressive in closed-door meetings with coaches and general managers," reports TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

"I’m told he knocked it out of the park during interviews as personnel people around the league who interviewed Wentz were awed by his knowledge of X’s and O’s," Pauline wrote. "The belief is the North Dakota State product, who was a 4.0 student in college, should have no problem running a multiple formation offense on Sundays and coaches love his upside." Wentz is easily the hottest prospect in the draft right now. Between his work on the field and mental acuity, scouts are salivating while projecting the upside of this tool shed of a prospect. I remember that too.

I don't know who, if anyone, is advising this kid, but he needs someone to get out in front of this right now and steer him in the right direction. If this continues he's going to push himself out of the draft completely.

If the pick is not Wentz, Dallas is doomed for the next 20 years much like the post-Aikman years.

To a lesser degree I'm still a Goff fan.
There's a chance we get Wentz cause Brown's need help yesterday and thats Goff.

I like what I've seen and heard from Wentz. But if he totally blows up and the Browns take him 2nd I'm be perfectly OK with Goff at #4. Jared is more polished and been successful at a high level. But I do believe Wentz has what it takes to be a franchise QB and is much bigger kind of like Roethlisberger and possibly more durable. Either would be fine with me.

I'm with you on that. I think either way it could go a long way

So am I but I just hope he or Goff is there when we pick. Concern someone might make trade with the Chargers after the Browns take a qb of their choice

You're still failing to show me one person who wants to draft a QB regardless of their ranking. Which is what you claimed.

I've seen it. There were definitely people who suggested this. In fact, I actually posed a question weeks ago (trying to find it) where I asked if the Cowboys had the 4th pick and the highest QB on their board was rated like 14th, would you take the QB instead of the BPA and some said they would becuase the QB spot is that important.

Thats a lot of faith in a college QB...... I don't think in the last 20yrs there was a Top 5 QB pick that won more than 1 SB(Eli?)

Matter of FACT:in the last 20yrs draft EXACTLY 2 Top 5 QB's have a total of 3 SB wins: Peyton & Eli are IT

If the pick is Wentz and he sucks, then Dallas is doomed for the next 20 years much like the post Aikman years also.

what if the pick is Goff - Ramsey- Jack or who ever

This move could end up back firing, as it could with any other player at any other position, let alone another passer.

You’d probably expect that many or most of these quarterbacks were first-round picks, but it might surprise you to learn that eight of the 29 Super Bowl winners were the first overall pick in their respective drafts, and those eight QBs have combined to win 15 Super Bowls, or 33 percent of all Lombardi Trophies.

Other statistics of note:
•16 of the 29 Super Bowl-winning QBs were first-round picks
•Those 16 first-round picks have combined to win 25 Super Bowls; e.g. 56 percent of all Super Bowls have been won by first-round picks
