Yes

If Hatcher and Bowmen were better than Spears, they would have been starting. So, No.

Is this a joke?

Scandrick is NOT a safety. He is too small and way to much quality at CB to move to safety. I'm not sure what the Cowboys were thinking, but they dismissed that idea already.

Not to mention that Hamlins cap hit will be much larger if you cut or trade him since you're then going to have to eat every bit of whats left from his signing bonus, that was to be spread out over a handful of seasons, all in this years cap.

Ken Hamlin

7/15/2008: Signed a six-year, $37.5 million contract.

The deal contains $15 million guaranteed, including a $9 million signing bonus. Another $2 million is available through escalators in 2012 and 2013. 2008: $605,000, 2009: $4.305 million, 2010: $5.596 million, 2011: $5 million, 2012: $6 million, 2013: $7 million, 2014: Free Agent. Cap charge: $2.105 million (2008).

Yep, looks like Hamlin has Jerry by the cajones. :)

Let's just hope he returns to Pro Bowl form.

Without Hamlin in a trade, that's still over 10 million for Ellis, Carpenter and Spears. I'd make that trade...cuz I don't like any of those players at this point.

Stewart and Carpenter is a push in overall talent, but does anybody really care? Neither are starters and Stewart is probably a better special teamer. I'm just sick of Carpenter...addition by subtraction in my book.

Spears is good against the run and average at everything else. He's an under-achiever in the NFL coming from a national champ at LSU. He was a "good fit" and a "need" player for Parcells' version of the 3-4, just like Carpenter was the very next year. Ratliff is an upgrade over Spears, but I think Hatcher could also handle the position IMO. Bowen and Dixon are the wild cards on the DL, but so was a guy named Leon Lett once upon a time.

In a rotation it's certainly not a joke. Siavii and Anderson are bascally big bodies, that can plug the middle up at NT. Personally, I see Siavii as an upgrade over Tank against the run and that's not really hard to do. Anderson is strictly a depth guy, but has some experience and could plug the middle if called upon...that's all I'm saying. You have to remember, the three positions of LDE, NT and RDE are constantly being rotated to keep the players fresh. I fully expect a rookie DE and NT to be drafted, but counting on them to be a force as rookie is a lot to ask. One thing is for sure, I definitely want this defense to get bigger at NT and that means moving Ratliff to DE.

Scandrick at safety is just about keeping your best players on the field whenever possible. However, looking at Hamlin's contract more up close, I don't want Hamlin going anywhere this year. So just nix that idea...

I don't think the Panthers would want Hamlin anyway. Unless Hamlin is traded to a third team, in this trade scenario, point is moot.

Peppers is my favorite non-Dallas player but we simply can't overpay to acquire him. Jerry is known for overpaying. Bad combination.

If Carolina is willing to give him to NE for a 2nd round as rumored would they take a 3rd and Spencer? Would you (Cowboy fans) do that trade?

Not saying that it wouldn't work, but Peppers is not a high priority for the Cowboys. At least I wouldn't think he is. We do not have the cap room to sign Ware and then Peppers. Nor can we afford to give up more draft picks for Peppers. Let's not forget that Peppers is a true DE in a 4-3. Who is to say that his transition to a 3-4 LB won't be a rocky one? Heck, there's always a chance he might not even be the same player.
