On Sirius yesterday they were saying that Peppers has just about burned his bridges there. and that the boys were one of several possibilities?

Anyone heard anything more or was that just the talking heads spouting gas?

I know that if he had been a UFA Jerry was going to go after him hard. I think he will not do it if he has to give up something to acquire him unless it is Greg Ellis and someone else in a package deal. I just don't see it.

I mean, its a 2-for-1 deal..........

On one hand, I want Peppers badly....having him opposite Ware, we would unleash so much fury if both were to stay healthy.

On the other hand, his age and price tag make me say NO THANK YOU. He can take his game elsewhere. If he hadn't committed so much money into players like T.O., Flo, Crayton, Roy Sooner, and even Roy Longhorn.....then I wouldn't mind taking on such a big contract.....also, no way am I going after him before I secure Ware for the long term.

I say PASS.....give that money to DWare and to the draft picks. If we draft wisely this year and in the near future, there is no reason why we can't build a dominant team on both sides of the ball.

After this year, TO and RW38 won't have any impact on our cap. Crayton's deal is actually pretty small. Flo and RW11 are paid typical contracts for people at their position, so they shouldn't be debilitating.

The problem with adding someone like Julius Peppers is it means you are giving up on Anthony Spencer.

The staff was pretty high on him last camp before injuries set in and lingered during the season. Spencer has already been told he will be starting next season, it's time to find out what he can do.

Just how many good years does Peppers have left is the big question to me. If we can get 3 good ones from him then he is worth a hard look.
I doubt that we can get much for Ellis. I am lazy right now has he signed his franchise tender- I do not think so. Ugh I am really kind of out of it right now.

Spencer has frankly not shown much. And it seems to work for the Giants to have lots of guys competing to get to the QB. So if he can nnot take the competition then nuts to him. Point is that Peppers would only have a few years here and if you cannot beat out a 35 year old guy then you got nothing to talk about (and he has not beaten out Ellis either)

well anyone with any common sense, including Spencer, would take Peppers over Spencer any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I read where the Patriots were trying to get him. Not sure where that is now.

I think that the Panthers would take Ellis and another draft pick for him.

Not even a remote possibility there.

Another big veteran contract is exactly what this team needs.

And let's teach that veteran to play 3-4outside linebacker instead of 4-3 defensive end.

And never mind the player we drafted to take over the spot from Greg Ellis.

I do not agree with the Madden approach, we don't need another name.

Anyhow, lacking a first round selection, what exactly are we going to offer the Panthers to hand over their best pass rusher?

I could care less about Spencer at this point who is nothing, but a failure until proven otherwise.

That being said, because of age and his price tag, I dont see Peppers to Dallas being that realistic with what we have to offer.

I guess u didnt read my first post where I said NO THANKS to Peppers. in my reply to you, I was merely saying, if you are using Spencer as your argument for not going after Peppers, that is silly. Peppers on his worst day is still better than Spencer has been as a pro.

I'll believe it when it happens.

I follow your line of thinking, but all signs point to the uncapped year. Look at the way contracts are being structured around the league and the abundance of one year deals. I hope it's imminent because I'd like to see some of the ridiculous contracts *cough*Ken Hamlin*cough* dumped.

I believe Spencer has a breakout season this year. He plays the run well and has pass rush abilities. It would have been great if he remained in the game when Ellis came in on passing downs, ala the Steelers having 3 pass rushing linebackers in on passing downs. I'm just not ready to give up on him... but again, who am I??? LOL
