What more confusing? Word Linehan was behind Dez's release or Dez saying he was released coz he wasn't one of Garrett guys?

Garrett already said that Linehan was going nowhere. If Garrett wanted him gone, he NEVER says that. Linehan is a Garrett guy all the way through. The ONLY part that may have made any sense is that Garrett may have wanted play calling back. We already know he got kicked to the curb on that and has probably wanted it back ever since.
Unless Garrett already tried to get rid of him last year and was denied and assumed Jerry's reasons for keeping him still stood (e.g. Not messing with Dak with a new system).

Yes it does.

It’s clear Jerry calls the shots on assistants so an assistant getting more or less power isn’t Garrett’s decision. It’s Jerry’s.

So it’s totallt plausible Garrett wanted Linehan gone last year but Jerry blocked him.
Proof that Jerry is an idiot.

Whomever comes in is going to be running Garrett's version of the same old antiquated passing system from the 70's!

We can only hope that isn't the case. Why would they bring someone else in then? Why not stick with Linehan. He ran Garretts dull offense to perfection.

That would be the ONLY possible explanation. The ONLY one. However, its a big long shot. It would also speak volumes about how Garrett has no say here. It would say that he had basically given up on getting a real OC and didn't even bother to try again. Which would be yet another huge reason why he needs to go.

They don’t seem to want a new voice, new system, they want a new voice to talk about the same old tired system!

Ding ding ding! Everyone wanted Garrett's play calling duties removed...needs to focus on head coaching. In comes Callahan. Didn't take long for fans to become disillusioned with him...same offense. In comes Linehan same offense with an rpo thrown in here and there. It's all the same offense. The next guy who comes in will be calling the same available plays. When Jerry finally decides to move on from Garrett he'll hire someone from the same antiquated coaching tree. It's what he thinks he knows and understands!

Last off-season Jason Garrett attempted to move on from Linehan and Jerry not only denied that request but increased Linehan responsibility & power. Also, Garrett was more involved with play calling duties late in year and if Dallas doesn't get OC they want....Garrett will call plays in 2019.

First both Garrett and Linehan wouldn't have gone on at length on how much they like and respect each other when it was announce that Linehan was leaving if Garrett wanted to ghet rid of him last season. Second why does just ONE "insider" have this unbelievable story. Third how many times have all of these "insiders" been not just wrong but 100 degrees off on things. Fourth as much as Jones likes Garrett I seriously doubt that he would tell an "insider" that he stabbed Garrett in the back which I seriously doubt he would and then tell about it. Fifth these"insiders have to say things to be noticed just like writing opinion pieces just to get clicks to get paid.

I love the cognitive dissonance threads like this create when they’re dropped into the groupthink.

But nice to see Jason Garrett roll another guy under the bus.
That's what this smells like to me. Werder does have sources with the team, always has. He's part of the old guard DFW media who was here when Jason played and lavished Garrett with praise the first many years he coached here, probably because they knew and liked him personally when he was still carrying a clipboard here. I wouldn't doubt Werder got this news from someone in Garrett's camp trying to make Jason look good. "Oh, everyone hated Linehan? Well Jason wanted to get rid of him a long time ago but mean old Jerry wouldn't let him."

Hell, it might even be basically from Jason himself. He's always trying to make himself look as good as possible.

Whatever went on between Linehan and Dooley and Pollack and the WR group in 2017, we haven’t heard all the details yet. Something went down.

When did journalism cross over from reporting the truth to reporting whatever people with money tell you to write?

When did writers become such shills?
