You can't question his toughness, as I've said repeatedly. The dude has faced some gnarly injuries as the Cowboys QB. It's a damn shame it took till 2013 before the team started taking protecting him seriously. He's danced around behind shoddy protection nearly his entire career and taken a beating for this team while we were primarily stuck in neutral.

He'll be back and ready to go, and frankly, I hope we keep building on his protection. There shouldn't be an offensive pick next year that isn't an offensive lineman, everything else should funnel to defense. If we select a TE, WR or RB, I'll know it's gonna be more of the same.

Funny thing is Kitna's tweet two days ago implicitly said Kyle was starting...

I'm going to guess you feel that way because the current state of the Cowboys is Kyle Orton under center and not Tony Romo.

I gotta feeling. Woo hoo. That Sunday night's not going to be a good night.

No, in all honesty. I enjoyed watching the Cowboys in 2010 when Kitna stepped in after Romo's injury. It was fun to watch everyone play like a team...something about Kitna commanded respect in the huddle and he got the most out of every player that year.

It would just be nice to see the focal point of the Cowboys...be the Cowboys, and not one player. Give me a bus-driving QB who can manage the game who isn't always under extreme pressure to perform/not screw up and I think this team as a whole plays better.

Just imagine how bad off he would be if we weren't so Romo friendly all these years.

Less talent at QB. It's just what the Dr. ordered.

Doctor's perspective.

Dr. Johnny Benjamin ‏@DrJCBenjamin15m
Pro athletes often get treated differently than regular patients in medicine. Tony Romo's herniated disc is a perfect example.
Usual treatment for herniated disc: NSAIDs, PT for 4-6 weeks, 3 ESIs then surgery for 5-10% that fail this course of treatment. Tony Romo's herniated disk happened on Sunday then meds, ESI & surgery roughly 4 days later. In pro's surgery is fast tracked. Unfortunately
fast tracked surgery may have been a reasonable option IF he had a chance of playing again this season. No chance either way; So why rush? Unless person is becoming paralyzed or having bowel/bladder issues very rarely consider surgery for disc b4 6-12 wks.
Immediate surgery for a disc herniation is usually in the best interest of the team & performing surgeon; patient/athlete not so much. Romo got cut in 4 days. Romo will likely have 6-12 weeks of therapy then be full speed for conditioning. Next season's no problem if all goes well.

Pretty irresponsible for a doctor to comment on a patient he hasn't seen.

If Tony never plays again (and I don't think he is done for good, but backs are tricky) it's pretty ironic that the last play he ever made for this team was that 4th down, game winning TD pass. For all his misadventures in the 4th quarter his final play for the Cowboys would be rescuing them from defeat as he did so many times before. How about that.

In Dallas, "day to day" basically means "we are being hopeful, but honestly he's done".

It happened with Ratliff and Spencer. They will probably will be playing the same idiot game with terminology next summer.

This 'administration" is a clown show from the top on down to the coach. ESPN has their moments but those NFL guys (Schefter, Mort) are pretty knowledgeable and don't just report things for the hell of it.

Man what a bummer. I feel for Romo...wanted nothing more than to see him lead this team past Philly and onto the playoffs. Woulda been sweet.

But back problems are no joke. My wife is only 25 and had an inflamed lower disc earlier this year. She couldn't walk for a month.

Time to get behind Orton and hope this team can put a great game plan together and execute it perfectly. Send the Eagles home with their wings clipped. No team I dislike more.

One to two year deal? Maybe a week to week deal would have been better..i dont know why jerry couldnt have done that instead.

Its impressive how little some people know around here.

It's the Madden mentality.

I know how you feel. This team should have been on the upswing after that playoff win against Philly in 2009 but it's just been one disappointment after another since then.

Man, this really hits it on the head and captures why I'm so down on this coach right now. That 2009 playoff win should have been the start of something really good under Garrett. And what we got was regression. Partly due to the coaching (in retrospect) and lousy front office work from GM Jerry. Sad.

I was in favor of giving him a 1-2 yr extension and trying to find his future replacement in the meantime. But Jerry went all in and made him our QB of the present and future. Totally ridiculous deal.

He went all in because he had no other options. Romo was not going to agree to a short extension when he could have gotten what he wanted on the open market. Contrary to fan opinion, there are a lot of people in the league who like Romo and would love to have him as a QB. I'm not defending Tony's overall legacy. I'm not thrilled with all the crushing mistakes he makes, but facts are facts. He would've gotten paid elsewhere because there was a market for him and Jerry would be left holding the bag (as usual) Wake up, man.

I bet you really appreciate your wife after all that!

I don't feel betrayed by the front office. I don't blame them one bit for calling it day to day. Maybe it was as far as they knew at that point. If it was me, I would've tried to keep the surgery secret (hard to do) and announced he couldn't go 90 minutes before kickoff. Of course the league might try to fine us for not catering to Vegas, but we're already in trouble for that so what the hell?
