Pete Carroll: "We’re fortunate we’re getting them this early" (2014)

A comment by Pete Carroll that will always stick with me.

“They’re going to get so much better as they grow together, but they’ve made an obvious commitment,” Carroll said. “Their running game is very consistent and they’re very strong upfront. We’re fortunate we’re getting them this early, because a year from now or by the end of this season, these guys are really going to be something.”

This was during Zack Martin's Rookie year in 2014. We ended up beating the Seahawks this game, so they weren't so fortunate after all, but this is when the league started to take notice. This was before we would go on to sign La'el Collins in free agency as a rookie. It's funny, this could have all been for not had we drafted Manziel like many people wanted. Drafting Martin was one of the happiest moments I've had as a Cowboys fan during the draft. Only beaten by the drafting of Elliott.

Yep. Pretty obvious Jerry has been relegated to the second round only in the most recent years.

Still has to dig at us in the 6th and 7th by taking a TE if one hasn't already been selected.

*******.

I remember many people on this board calling me every name in the book because I didn't wanna draft manziel. But those same fans forget about that, and swear they know the right decision to make for the team every time :lmao2:

There weren't enough people on this board supporting Manziel to use the word 'many'

Thats a damn lie. Lots of folks wanted manziel I argued with enough of them to remember.
sure, some did. but the majority did not
it reeks of narcissism for patting yourself on the back for not wanting a player most of us did not want

Yet you're against Dak. Makes (tiny) sense.

It was pretty much an overall concensus that the forum was against drafting Johnny College.

Johnny Manziel was the best non draftee we ever had. That would have set us back a few years. I excited we draft him either. He reminded me too much of Ryan Leaf as far as attitude and being full of himself.

Haha, me too! Every time a QB needy team passed on Manziel I would go "Damnit!". When the Cowboys were on the clock I was literally on my knees praying "Don't do it, please don't do it!" Thank God they didn't do it.

Revisionist history. Reality is a lot of this board wanted him. Call it narcissistic or whatever you want but I sure was right

Nah you're wrong about Romo too. Which makes your eye for qbs quite suspect
I didn't forsee Manziel being a mess up off the field, but he does have talent. Meanwhile, Romo is a career JAG.
