The real gut punch with the 2007 D is how many of them had career years or better years then they had from then on.. Ellis, Hamlin, Roy, Henry. They were never what they were after that year. Bradie James and Ratlif had career years in 2008 and dropped off the end of the world pretty much after that.

That D looked really good but sadly I think it was not what we might have thought it was. I think the 2009 D was better but not by much.

Basically we had a good to really good D for three years (2007-2009) and then it began to come apart and descended to really bad in only a couple of years
Yeah in 09 we finished the season with back to back shut outs against Washington and Philly

What a great non-move the not trading for Paxton Lynch turned out to be. I would put it up there with the passing on Johnny Manziel to draft Zack Marting in 2014 and the passing on Shariff Floyd to trade down to draft Travis Frederick in 2013. Kudos to the Jones family. 20/20 hindsight hasn't historically been kind to Jerry and Co.
I wasn't high at all on Lynch going into the draft but you never know if in another year it "clicks" for him.

Lynch just might the best trade never made by the Cowboys. I can't imagine giving up Jaylon Smith and Maliek Collins for Lynch. And had the Cowboys drafted Lynch, I doubt they pick Prescott. Although, Stephen Jones said that wasn't necessarily so, I think.

Losing out on Dak, Collins, and Smith for Lynch would have been a colossal blunder. Dodged a bullet there.

In Peter King's article under his stat of the week article, he pimps this guys book that glorifies Kap's interception proficiency. He has Dak listed as the fifth best with "13" interceptions.

Am I missing something!

Age isn't the barrier...play is.

sometimes I wonder if you live in the real world. Show me a 40 year old RB. And of course there have been o linemen who have played quite well in their late 30's.

AGE always wins in the end.

Its aging that prevents the body from healing as fast as it did when it was younger. Its aging that makes the various parts of the body less able to withstand vigorous activity.

So claiming age is not the barrier is kind of DUMB.

Very true...

Still....All this is assuming Prescott is the real deal. If he turns into fools gold (and I think this likely based on pre-season reports/gut feeling)...then passing on a franchise QB like Lynch is still gonna look dumb.

A lot of assumptions here....Jaylon's Knee holding up...What position does he play? Do the coaches use him right?

Collins not getting fat again...And Once again...What's his best position?

You can spin this a lot of ways.....but really it boils down to Prescott. Is he the real deal? Or was he Robo QB w/ Romo /Moore filling him w/ info where to go w/ the football. Big season for him...Can he prove last season wasn't a fluke? Will he put in the time to make himself better? Already going back to school to get his degree....Nothing wrong w/ that I guess...Still I'd like to see a guy work on his craft...Get better. You can always go back to school later. This is the year to establish yourself as the leader of the team. Some will say...he's already done that. Not so fast. Prove he can do it on his own. Prove he wasn't coached up from week to week. Prove he won't let the limelight go to his head. Kid has a lot riding this year. I wish him the best. I really do. I just hope he doesn't turn into Quincy Carter over night.

You assume because you are young, that everyone beyond YOUR age is dumb...now first explain how Darrel Green won the sprint competition for the NFL, AT AGE 45, Mr. Youth is Everything...

It's been about 8-10 years, sadly.

Looking forward to the day when the defense is feared again.

That day will be soon. We will start to see it this year, and more so next. In 3 years we will have that Defense. It could happen as early as some point next season though, as is the 2018 season.
It won't happen this year, but we can see the start of it by the end of the year.
Well, we all hope that anyway.

The last 5 years have been great from who we got in the draft and who we did not make a deal for.
Kudos to Will McClay and Stephen Jones.

Not yet....not so fast there.....but has the potential to be up there with this.....
In 1990, there were 2 trades that fell through. Jimmy wanted to draft James Francis then Lamar Lathon both at LB.
He could not get a trade done for either, as the Bengals selected Francis, right before the spot where Dallas would have traded to. Once he was off the board, the deal was nixed.
Same for Lathon with Houston (Oilers).

So Dallas then traded up with Pittsburgh ahead of the Giants to select Emmitt.
Giants then selected Ronny Hampton.

Barring injury, this offense isn't slowing down anytime soon.

Right, the offense is still pretty young. Other than Witten, and now that Free has retired, as well as Tony. The old man of the group is who, Dez? at 28.

That's not what the stats were showing.

The stat was interceptable throws, meaning throws made that had the potential to be intercepted, or should have been intercepted. Kaepernick had the lowest percentage of these throws, and Prescott was 5th in this analysis. Prescott threw 13 balls that had the potential to be picked - 4 of them actually were.

There are always outliers. That is true. What is equally true is Father Time is and will be undefeated. I think that is what he was sayin, my two cents.

That is supposed to be like lightening in a bottle? The NFL is a young man's game, but dominance is where it occurs. Stereotypes never were worth a damn...because they cheat people out of a right to try.

I'll just restate the initial comment by myself...

Age isn't the barrier...play is.

I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder and the details. I didn't realize how close Emmitt Smith could have ended up a Giant.
