Gannon's not the only broadcaster who causes concern

Posted by Mike Florio on September 26, 2009 4:31 PM ET

In the wake of the brouhaha that erupted Friday regarding the desire of Raiders' exec John Herrera to build a moat around team headquarters in the hopes of keeping former Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon out, a league source has shared with us the name of another player-turned-broadcaster whose presence at pregame production meetings makes some teams nervous.

The player-turned-broadcaster in question is former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman.

The concern comes from two different dynamics: Aikman's ties to the Cowboys and his very close connection with Chargers coach Norv Turner, who presented Aikman for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Though there's never been any evidence that Aikman has shared with the Cowboys or with Turner nuggets that Aikman has obtained while meeting with players and coaches of the teams that play the Cowboys or the Chargers, the mere fact that Aikman has those connections is enough to make folks in the top-secret NFL community fret about what Aikman could do.

Meanwhile, we're hearing that the Lions have been talking to former CEO Matt Millen regarding stuff Millen is picking up from his work as both a college and pro football analyst at ESPN, with plans to do the exact opposite of whatever Millen recommends.

Wouldn't this apply to all former players and coaches?

I don't get why this is directed at Aikman.

I doubt very strongly that Aikman would trade in his integrity and risk his broadcasting just to give the Cowboys an unfair advantage on Sundays.

I don't think so either.

LMAO. There's a "top-secret" NFL community?

This sounds like something people involved in national security or spy related business would say.

What tripe.

:muttley:

That guy is such a meathead. He did the Nebraska game last week and offered nothing. All I could think was the irony of the worst GM in NFL history giving his "expert" opinion.

What a stupid concept. Was John Madden not smart enough to pick up stuff he could pass to the Raiders?

Now, I do agree that Aikman might be able to pick things up that are insightful and pass them along, which is not a concern with other former QB analysts, such as congenitally ******** morons like Simms and Theisman, who could not collectively move the needle of an EEG machine.

But to put this out there without a shred of proof, as posutaltion, is insulting and defamatory. I mean it's not like he recorded practices and defensive signals and used them to win games... like some teams I could mention.

Florio has a point...the NFL network and all affiliate networks should only hire losers like him to be announcers instead of ex-players with experience.

Besides, Aikman hates the Cowboys. Why would he help us??? Now, if the Playmaker was in on meetings, I wouldn't put anything pass him when it comes to helping the Boys. He created an entire TV show just to get them an xtra WR.:lmao2:

If they would read the "Cowboyszone" they would know that Aikman is a hater.

So they think Aikman is a stooge and is spilling the beans to Dallas about inside info about other teams???

Have they watched Dallas play lately???

If we are getting inside info, it sure the hell is not helping very much.
