Memo to Jerry Jones:

This is how you're undermining your coach and damaging your team. This is how you damage their authority and promote bad behavior among your players. This is how you damage the name and reputation of the Dallas Cowboys.

Decisions like this are how you hurt your own team.
This is how you confirm that the team has a country club atmosphere with no accountability.

The two best coaches Dallas has had under Jones (Johnson and Tuna) were the ones Jones had the least control over. Don't think that was a coincidence.

Does it really matter? Does anybody in Dallas really think it's anybody but Jerry putting up the resistance on this one? And does anybody really think Jason is going to win that fight?

You're absolutely right. But that's exactly the point I was trying to make. If they wanted Garrett to look like he had ANY authority at all, he would have had to cut McClain IMMEDIATELY and hold a presser.....

McClain was the very first free agent they signed so either they were desperate or they were really depending on him.

Although cutting him would be great for team moral, Rolando would pocket another 750k. Better to have him clean out his locker and send him home for ten games, then don't let him dress for the remaining regular season games. He would end up with next to nothing on his play incentive based contract.

Thought we discussed this in that we, by NFLPA rules, cannot cut him during a suspension?
There is no money saved now anyway so might as well see how the defense goes without him and make a decision after week ten. He has never been in shape for a full sixteen game season anyway so maybe a six week season and playoffs would be about right for him.

And the most success he's ever had as owner came when he was still learning and was asserting his least amount of control and influence. The more confident he became, the more he exerted his influence, the worse things got.

Yes. Waste a roster spot to punish him. Smart thinking.

are you implying that the great Jason Garrett is not "building a long term contender"?

That is a very negative attitude

I'm not.

But there's nothing wrong with having negative takes anyway. Read the forum guidelines if you're confused re what's allowed. They're pretty straightforward.

It's Jerry Jones team. Everybody who plays and coaches here knows what time it is.

The fact Jerry wants to retain McClain is something I disagree with however if he is cut before we hit camp then it will show me that Jerry is listening to Garrett and his staff.

By NFL rules, he isn't suspended until the regular season begins. He can participate in all workouts, training camp and preseason games.

Not sure if that allows a loophole to cut him now.

I've seen it discussed, but haven't seen any source. Wasn't Ray Rice cut after he was suspended? Greg Hardy too?

This probably sounded like a smart thing to say in your head. But posts rarely are entirely factual, and when they are, they are generally boring.

In any event, enough with the implicit criticism of the forum. It's not cute, and it's derailing the thread.

Garrett knew what he was signing up for. I don't feel sorry for him. He's been on this team as a coach for 9 years.

Nobody should feel sorry for him. He knew what the gig entailed. The job in Dallas comes with Jerry Jones running things. That was the case from the moment he bought the team, and it hasn't changed. Players have to play around that, and coaches have to coach around it. He'll spend money. He'll get you players that you want. But he's going to be involved, sometimes to the detriment of the team.

I believe they were on the commissioners exempt list, not actually suspended until later on. Hardy never got cut
