PFT-Cowboys haven’t filed grievance against Ratliff, yet

So when Cowboys owner Jerry Jones uses the term “legal matter” when talking about former Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, what is Jones referring to?

Under the labor deal between the NFL and the NFLPA, the team’s only potential legal recourse comes from the filing of a so-called non-injury grievance under Article 43.

Both the Cowboys and the NFL have advised PFT that no grievance has been filed against Ratliff, yet. Under Article 43, Section 2, it must be filed within 50 days of the date of the thing that the grievance relates to.

What do you think, Mike?

You think Jerry will go for it?

I hope he does. I think the Cowboys and their fans received a royal screwing courtesy of Mr. Ratliff. Losing that almost $7 mil of cap space next season hurts now and it's going to hurt even more come next offseason.

We need that cap space next year. I'm sure the lawyers are reviewing and making sure everything is in order before they file.

This would set a terrible precedent if it goes completely unpunished.

I have to think Goodell would consider the ramifications, but you never know.

I have to think passing another team's physical and actually signing a contract makes a potential Cowboy case that much stronger.

The whole thing makes me question if Ratliff did actually hurt his hamstring during conditioning test.

Based on how everything has gone it wouldn't shock me if we found out that Ratliff has been healthy right along.

I just bet he passes that physical and is squatting, like a treacherous toad in their starting lineup for their game against our team.

Like a snake in the grass that he is.

Man, I hope he gets stepped on.

Within reason, of course.

I am civil.

Kind of...

I wonder how much of this goes back to the DUI Ratliff received and how much grief the Cowboys gave him (and rightfully so) over that.

It seems like things went down hill fast after that event.

Maybe he (Ratfliff) got his nose bent outta shape over getting his hand slapped.

I'm sure the Cowboys were none too pleased considering how soon it happened after the tragic accident.

An incident that cannot be ignored.

That would say he couldn't be adult enough to admit he did wrong and would rather lash out than admit it and do better.

Good riddance- filthy swine. So crooked he has to have his pants screwed on.

I'm sure we get every penny back :)

If the Cowboys file... as the article suggests, the Cowboys probably have some solid information.

Would it be a shock for the Cowboys and Ratliff to end up splitting the difference? No.

At this point getting any part of that cap space back would be a good thing.

maybe he was injured in the dui crash and that is the legal matter. we should know soon enough. I hope Tfred smacks him good for Jerry

Double-like.

This situation gets my goat. (Obviously)

Millions of dollars given to this dude and he spits in our face.

Spits in their face.

There are millions out there begging for a simple job.

And he's too good for his millions.

He deserves a good slap.

That was sarcasm on my part. If we do file and are rewarded anything, I'm sure it'll be somewhere along a split.

I dont even care about the physical dollars but I dont see why this contract should effect our available cap space at all.

Are the salary cap ramifications a decision for Goodell or the courts?
