Cowboys executive Stephen Jones recently described the team as mere “observers” in the Ezekiel Elliottcase. Paperwork filed in connection with the case suggests otherwise.

Cowboys general counsel Jason Cohen has submitted a declaration (an affidavit signed without official notarization, routinely used in federal court) that both explains the harm the team will suffer due to a suspension of Elliott and directly supports the claim that an effort existed to conceal the opinions of Director of Investigations Kia Roberts from Commissioner Roger Goode

For Goodell to try and discredit and go after Zeke is one thing. But to do so against the most powerful owner in the world - who is siding with Zeke - is a whole other level. Goodell doesn't want this fight.

Jerry is the man. Well done.

Im so tired of all of this.

In NY this week there will be a laser like focus about the upcoming game and here in DFW we are going to get amateur lawyer talk for 7 days about this nonsense.

So tiring always having someone in some sort of trouble here. I really hope at least the good writers like archer can stick to football throughout this week. I already know most will obsess over this crap.

Theebs, what do you think of the way David Moore and the Morning News has covered the Zeke case? They've really gone after Zeke pretty hard especially in contrast to Clarence Hill and the Star Telegram. Hill has broken several stories but clearly is getting the info from Zeke's side and the NFLPA. Moore has been pretty steadfast in defending the NFL 100% throughout the process. In the end, I don't know if it makes a huge difference but it's just an interesting dynamic in the local media.

This appears to be a direct, public challenge to Goodell. Couple this with Jerry's being invited by Blank as an additional member of the committee deciding on Goodell's contract extension, and there's a strong suggestion of a "court intrigue" aimed at ousting Goodell. Interesting.

There's a whole different game being played behind the scenes among the owners that likely will be more significant than the very public legal proceedings.

So what were you doing back in the 90s when all this type of thing has been going on? Or the 80s or the 70s? Duane Thomas, Hollywood Henderson, Harvey Martin, Rafael Septien, Kevin Gogan, Erik WIlliams, Michael Irvin, Mark Tuinei, and on and on.

When they went the puritan route with Chan Gailey is when the team declined. Skipping on Randy Moss is a move that has gone down in infamy.

I don't care when our guys 'get in trouble' personally beyond when it makes them miss games. They are modern day gladiators.

Last I heard Goodell was getting a 5 year extension - what is the status of that?

It has to be approved by the owners and it hasn't been. He's been pissing off a steady stream of owners for the past 7 years.

If anybody could rally those owners to a "no" vote, it would be Jerry. I imagine there are some crusty old owners in that pack who just want the checks to keep coming in, and don't like the idea of change.

Yup

Then you have

Bountygate- Tom Benson
Deflategate - Bill Kraft
Uncapped year - Dan Snyder

Now that old man Rooney is dead, Goodell has basically pissed off all of the powerful owners with the exception of his good buddy Mara.

Overall he was brought in to clean up the image of the league. Instead he has the public perception of the NFL central office lower than when he started. It used to be the players were out of control but now it is the players doing the same things they always have with his office looking incompetent and corrupt.

There was never an investigation. Everything and everybody involved on the NFL side was focused on the punishment and what they could get away with. The members of the "advisory committee" were all experts at finding a way to maximize the penalty. You had a CEO of a political action group focused on publicity attached to punishing a celebrity and you had a female prosecuting attorney from NEw York, the one that tried John Gotti, a pure ringer hired by Goodell.

But they picked on the wrong franchise.

They picked on the wrong team, the wrong owner, the wrong fan base. They picked on the wrong guy. Now, it's over, no more sissifying the game of football with ridiculous rules (RB cannot lead with head), no more attacks by radical women groups seeking to destroy the reputation of players, no more tyrants in the commissioner's office, no more!

That's where Garrett and Dak need to reel the team in like a head coach and qb should. No questions about Zeke should be answered
