Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently said the offense has just “scratched the surface.” That same sentiment apparently applies to Prescott’s ability to lead the team. “Dak has earned that with what he did as a rookie,” tight end Jason Witten said Monday, via Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He is the…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2455479&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

I love how Witten is supporting Dak and the Cowboys. It would be petty if he held a grudge because the team "dissed" his best friend, but believe or not there are players who would be disgruntled right now. Witten is a true professional. I'm so glad Dak has guys like him and Lee to guide him.

That's because Dak was outstanding as a rookie. If we spent a high pick on someone like Goff and he had the season he did, there definitely would be a divide in the locker room. Winning cures all, especially for an old vet like 82

As former NFL and college coach Charlie Weis explained it last week on PFT Live, leadership is the most important factor that determines whether a quarterback succeeds at the professional level. Prescott has clear and obvious leadership skills — and the Cowboys have their next franchise quarterback through a process that was as seamless and painless as it could have been.

One of the benefits of being the QB and having a strong rookie season is that they're handed the reins "on the come" as it were. The possibility of greatness is projected upon them though they haven't been there long enough to really prove themselves yet,,,, but they will get every opportunity and have everyone's full support. Just don't pull a Kaepernick and disappear because that confidence and support can disappear just as fast.

As with every young player, its about how much you want to get better. Dak is a grinder, so I don't really question that he will be better this year. I do wish we had a deep threat for him, but those are expensive to find in either money or high draft pick.

I hope he starts with improving getting the ball out quicker, and maybe run a lil more. Teams are predicting that bootleg, we need to have another option on that play other than the TE most of the time. Also, put in alot of work with Dez, so they are in sync.

But back to the main thing, if he wants to be the next Brady, work on hitting that back foot and getting rid of the ball with quicker progressions.

In my opinion, the biggest indictment of Jason Garrett's leadership, as well as the core young players and young leaders of this team, was Jason Witten signing an extension.

Witten is the last true remnant of the Romo era, so to speak. For Jason to stick around instead of either leave to follow Tony or retire is a big statement, to me at least.

So, you don't like or doubt Garrett's leadership, and that of the core of young players and young leaders on the team?

I appreciate Witten's attitude, but this really isn't a big deal to me. I wouldn't expect anything but from Witten or any other player who understands what professionalism means.

Romo was forced into retirement by a younger cheaper alternative who could get his job done. We have noone at the moment that can do that to Witten so there is no reason to force his retirement.

If Jason wants to play, which he obviously does, let him play. Tony and Witten are close, but they aren't like that movie 'Stuck on You'. Plus there is a huge difference in position, Witten could play a different role even if Rico was the starter, and still get on a field for alot of snaps in a 2 TE set or H-back.

Romo had to sit there with a clipboard.

I don't hear too many players criticizing their teammates publicly, especially teammates who perform well. That's the extreme exception, not the rule.
Agreed. Witten was not going to come out and say something negative. Not in his character, but not in many other player's character either.

If everyone spoke their mind, I could see someone praising him for toeing the company line. Thing is, he always has and always will.

I can't think of better companions to work out with and follow than Witten and Lee

Re-read what I wrote. I think that Jason Garrett has created a culture that has allowed relationships and leaders like this to flourish.

Romo was forced into retirement by a younger cheaper alternative who could get his job done. We have noone at the moment that can do that to Witten so there is no reason to force his retirement.

Okay. This doesn't really respond to anything that I wrote, but cool story.

If Dak is judged for being a rookie qb, then same goes for Zeke being a rookie rb.

If he had a season like Goff, Romo would still be here too.
