As we reported so long ago that we can’t even remember without researching it and I’m feeling characteristically lazy right now so I won’t, Adam Schefter is joining ESPN.

The network announced the move this morning.

He officially will start with ESPN in August, after the expiration of his NFL Network deal. Schefter will appear on SportsCenter, NFL Live, Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, ESPNEWS, ESPN.com, ESPN Radio, and the various and sundry other ESPN platforms.

“The name ESPN speaks for itself. Its reputation stands alone,” Schefter said. “I watched ESPN growing up, so to be a part of the programming that every football fan watches, and really has always watched, and to be a part of such a talented group of people, it’s surreal to me. It feels like I’m a late addition to the Pro Bowl. I’m flattered, honored, humbled — and I can’t wait to get to work.”

We’ve yet to confirm Ed Werder’s report that ESPN gave Schefter a deadline to accept its offer. (Sorry, we couldn’t resist.)

I don't know if everyone has been paying attention, but Werder has been beaten up about his story that the Vikings have given Brett Favre a deadline. Pat Kirwan has said it is garbage and so has Brad Childress. It is funny to watch.

I don't care for schefter

and I guess loyalty means nothing anymore, where would shefter be if not for NFL network? Wasn't he some beat writer for the broncos before he got to NFLN?

and he knows absolutely nothing about football, he just has some decent front office connections.

I have no clue why Schefter left NFLN (his contract might have been up), but if ESPN is involved, he undoubtedly followed the money, which most people would, loyalty be damned. You have seen a bunch of quality writers go to ESPN and it is probably because they are bigger and pay more. And in terms of being an "insider", he's like most of them, wrong a lot but he has had a few hits.

Name an "insider" that does? Does Jay Glazer? Um, Werder?

I don't know, just listening to some of the things schefter says drives me crazy.

Ya I imagine he followed the money, I just don't like when people abandon the company that gave them their start just to make some extra cash.

HIs first tv job was with espn. He was on that horrendously bad around the horn before being hired by nfl network, where he had a big bag of nothing.

HIs interview on the ticket from february is classically bad. He will fit right in at espn, again.

the only insider that does know the real inner workings is Charlie casserly. His segments on cbs every week are very good.

And I love how he got killed by guys like, irvin, deion, chris carter etc....for not taking young or bush and now he looks like the only one with a brain in his head.

and of course, sanders, irvin and carter never ever bring it up anymore. They dont take negativity towards them very well.

I feel bad for Adam Shefter and for NFL network.
Shefter will not change my opinion of ESPN and the way they manipulate the stories to create controversy at every corner.
Jason Whitlock said it best when he said that he knows a lot of friends who are sports reporters who have sold out for the money that ESPN offers.

Too bad for Shefter, he had a promising career. I will miss watching him on TV. What is this "ESPN" you speak of?

I know I might get beat up over this but I like Shefter. I wish he would have stayed at NFL network. I like him because he brings the story moreso than other crap reporters trying to make a name for themselves. He may get it wrong sometimes but he certainly doesn't seem to be glorifing everything when he gets some camera face time.

It's to bad he is at BSPN now. I certainly won't be watching him anymore.

Hate that network.

I think it's important to remember that there's a big difference between the NFL analysts at ESPN and the reporters.

Most of their reporters are former newspaper sports writers who are tasked with conveying information. Mortensen, Mosely, Clayton, Werder, Schefter, etc.

The analysts are former players, coaches, or GMs, who have some expertise and share their opinions.

They have totally different jobs and both are needed.

The gray area is where the columnists come in -- Kornheiser, Wilbon, Skip, Jemele Hill, etc., -- writers who share their opinions.

I don't blame those former sports writers for going to ESPN. Newspapers are closing down on a weekly basis and I have sports writing friends who are out looking for jobs now. I appreciate newspaper purists and traditionalists, but a person has to look to the future.

The lack of true reporting has been going on for years now at ESPN.
Mortensen quoted as saying "The Raiders have lost the priviledge of me running stories by them" this in reference to a story that was about the Raiders. That kind of comment is just a tiny bit of the arrogance that prevails at ESPN.
When I refer to reporters selling out I am referring to reporters who are now just getting one part of the story and are to quick to break a story instead of getting the facts straight. Cowboy fans saw first hand with TO being here how the media at Bristol will report anything they hear before getting the full story. Now you are seeing it happen with the Vikings and Brett Farve.
Any true journalist worth his salt would get both sides of the story and at least try and get the subject's reaction to a story they are breaking.
That's why I feel sorry for Shefter. Another one bites the dust.
