I think you guys are seriously over estimating Jerry's clout. I don't think any of this ends in Jerry's favor.

Goodell will get his new deal.
Zeke will be suspended.
Life will go on.

When it comes time to negotiate the new CBA, all the owners will line up like good little soldiers against the players because they don't actually give a crap about them unless they are helping them personally make money.

What the owners should be concerned about above all else is keeping their product as sellable as it's been in times gone by. Whether they have enough sense to give the Commissioner the old heave-ho is yet to be discovered. Will they? Right now, it looks doubtful, although the cards are due to be laid on the table by some owners like Jerry who'd like nothing better than to see things change. It'll bear watching.

Here's a quote from Chris Mortenson's story that ran yesterday:

"Sources said Jones repeatedly complained that Goodell retained Blank as compensation committee chairman because of the 'one-sided' contract previously negotiated."

How in the heck does Goodell get to appointment the person responsible for his contract renegotiation?

Absolutely the motivation. The Elliott sideshow takes a backseat to when Jerry The Wildcatter sees the possibility of the cash cow dying.

The NFL is in trouble, and it has come on Goodell's watch. Why pay the man what he is scheduled to get with this kind of situation?

Why Pay anybody to be the commissioner 200 freaking million dollars?

The message I got from this was Goodell contract is almost guaranteed regardless if rating or revenue drops. I would have a problem with this as well.

That was one of the issues mentioned in Chris Mortenson's story. The so called incentives in his contract were not actually performance based, but were discretionary bonuses. Those bonuses are at the discretion or Arthur Blank who,if you see the quote in my post above, was appointed to the position by Goodell.

Goodell is a buffoon.

Pete Rozelle was a visionary, and in the early years excelled in negotiations with the broadcasting networks, league owners for the most part, as well as the expansion of the league.
Likewise, Paul Tagliabue at least continued the growth, the enjoyable of the game, & established a workable relationship with the players.

Goodell is everything contrary to his predecessors -- he is reactionary, lacks management/negotiation skills, & lacks the courage and grit in confronting pressures from special interest groups.

Goodell is exactly what the Owners wanted. He is different then Rozelle or even Tags but make no mistake, he is doing exactly what he was hired to do.

But ultimately, he is executing the office exactly as the owners dictated to him IMO. The byproduct might be less then prior years but that's really at the direction of the owners.

This. Jerry is basically cornered against a majority of old jealous egotistical owners and one very crooked commissioner. Jerry has no (or very few) votes or support ousting Goodell. All these owners have tons of $$ and at the end, all they want to hold a trophy and wear the gold coat (which Jerry just threw in all their faces last fall). They don't give a rats *** about Jerry and will go through the path of least resistance which is through the crooked commish to get their team in the dance.

When you pay someone to screw you, that is prostitution. Jerry, knows a great deal about that kind of a financial transaction. He decided he didn't like the manner in which the clown goodell was doing that screwing so he is making it known to the other owners. I think Arthur Blank is genuinely a good man but I could be wrong. I'm curious to see how this unwinds.

Jerry Jones accuses Arthur Blank of lying about Goodell extension

...

Jason Cohen writes that Jones “has discovered a number of very concerning issues,” including a contention that Falcons owner Arthur Blank, the chairman of the Compensation Committee, has “misled” the owners not serving on the committee, and that “critical facts” have been misrepresented to them. Among other things, Cohen claims Blank told owners that the Compensation Committee would vote unanimously on the deal given to Goodell, even though Jones claims that the committee is not currently unanimous.

“Commissioner Goodell’s contract extension is a substantial commitment by the Owners, as more than $200 million is at stake, on top of the $200 million already paid to him,” Cohen writes. “This is in addition to the unique and largely unfettered power exercised by the Commissioner. Ownership can’t have the Chairman let us down again.”

Interesting Jerry was supportive of Goodell thru the Brady ordeal last year and didn’t become combative until the Elliott suspension.

Jerry has needed to be shut down before by the league recently speaking out against his players suspended for marijuana with no other owners aligning with him.

Jerry was shut down and fined years ago speaking out for a greater share of the Equal TV Revenue.

Jerry has been standing alone in the recent issues which has effected the revenue as well while the NFL has taken a more stand back approach . It’s very obvious that Jerrys interest are always centric and self absorbed to his and the Dallas Cowboys interest.

I’ve never been more hopeful the majority of owners or individual owners will rise up against Jerry along with the complaints filed against him.

Nothing would serve the Dallas Cowboys football operations interest greater than a suspension or forced outing of Jerry Jone$.

And yer from which fantasy realm?,,,,,, cuz' I've not bothered keeping track concerning yer fanciful flights off PLANET:rolleyes:

You have some seriously LARGE cojones, Roger. I mean it's cool that the commish of the NFL is posting on this message board but 99% of the members here seriously hate your guts and would like to see you shipped to Rocket Man's country to never be heard from again.
