Well it doesn't make a lot of sense that you have no plans to not have him and say that you think he could play another 5 years and win a Superbowl. You're not planning on him starting in Dallas in 3 or 4 years.

Such weird comments come from this guy sometimes.
It makes perfect sense if you're trying to entice a team to trade for him by stating that 1) You're not going to release him, and 2) He's still an elite QB that can win SBs. This is ole' trader Jerah at work.

how can a competitor walk away from fair competition?
that goes for romo and dak
by the time the competition is over, it is beginning of the season.
Peyton Manning walked away from a competition didn't he? Are you going to tell me he wasn't a competitor?

$28 million back up QB next year? I don't think so.
Exactly! We're going to play the Seattle playbook, where you use this golden opportunity to get out from the anchor of Romo's contract by trading him next year, playing the inexpensive 4th rd QB, using the cap relief to resign Martin and key FAs.

Yep. We're going to eat about $10 mil in dead money. But it's still a major savings.

Not to mention use whatever pick we get out of him to possibly get another decent player in the draft, if Bradford was worth that much I can't imagine not getting a late first or early second for Romo, lot's of good players available then.

Please not a second. We know what they do with seconds. I'd rather get a third.

Get decent pass rushers like DLaw and future Pro Bowlers like Jaylon Smith and present Pro Bowlers who refuse to stay healthy like Sean Lee *knocks on wood*.

The salary cap expert in the other (Bkight?) showed that we have plenty of cap space, even with Romo, by only restructuring the top 5 contracts
Enough to sign the CBs, SS, WRs, DT.
If you can have a franchise QB backup another franchise QB, that would help insure our season.

And what happens if the older QB asks to be able to shop himself seeing the writing on the wall and wanting to finish his career on a good note?

I think Jerry will honor it if Romo insists.
However, it is no certainty Romo will lose the competition.

Thinking about this, if Romo is traded and Dak gets hurt, who is going to play?
Scary thought, isn't it?
Look at Bridgewater...

I have the same feeling, and what Romo said does not contradict this.

The only good reason to trade Romo is IF it is the only way to bring an edge rusher.

If it is an open competition in camp, there is a good chance for Romo to accept winner becomes starter and loser is the backup.

Salary cap is apparently not an issue, and Jerry has never been the type to be cheap to the key performers.

QBs do get hurt...
Romo is done here.

There is absolutely no reason to have Dak compete with Romo for the job in the offseason, especially after a season like this.

Dak is the starting quarterback.

That doesn't mean he is no matter what. That doesn't mean forever. That means that, even though Romo is healthy, Dak is still the starting quarterback because they're playing well, winning games, and he's progressing nicely.

However, no guarantees of anything have been made to anyone beyond that.

I promise you Jerry and the coaches think exactly like that.
Of course . Fans are so anxious to end the Romo era. Lol

This is really becoming quite entertaining. The juicy kind of controversy fan forums dream of.

Hello people. The season isn't over yet. You act like we're already in the Super Bowl.

Here is one reason, it may be the only way to keep Romo in Dallas is to have a fair competition.
Do you want to punt Romo and be stuck with Sanchez if Dak gets hurt?
Who cares if no one else has 2 franchise QBs.

What is so wrong with a fair competition?
If Romo wins, would he not give us a better chance to win?

Even if Romo wins, Dak only has to be a backup for 1 may or at max 2 years.
Losing in a fair competition to someone with 10 years more experience is no shame.

If Romo gets seriously injured yet again, any rational human being will come to grips with their own sports mortality.

Romo haters already have their tiny brains working on trades for the last few days, so of course they have to spin Jerry's words now into something that works for them. It's quite funny.
What would a QB competition between Romo and Dak even look like? Dak wins the 40 yard dash and the phony poise contest, and Romo takes the other 15 categories?

Yep, this is fueled by the Romo haters.

Jerry has made it very clear of the situation but these fans aren't listening. They hear what they want to hear.

I think a fair competition is to play both QBs with the same OL, WR, RB etc. probably in internal scrimmages and perhaps preseason against the same defenses.

The loser must feel they got a fair shake, or this would generate controversy.

If it is a tie, I would have to give it to Dak because he is less likely to get injured and cause another controversy mid season.
