PFT: Jerry Jones says no thought of not having Tony Romo in 2017

My own gut feeling the only way Romo stays is if he has the opportunity to compete for the job. It has also been reported that Romo asked the "Brass" for the chance to compete.
What's not understood is...Romo really doesn't have a choice unless the Cowboys Brass agree to it as well. Romo is under contract for a few more years. So, whether they give him the opportunity to compete or not, it's really not his choice alone on whether he stays or not.

What's it going to be then, eh?

What is he supposed to say? "Yeah his butt is gone next year" I don't think so

He's just trying not to rock the boat too much
This goes beyond "not rocking the boat".

It is a silly comment after yesterday's PC and is showmanlike.

He could not even wait a day to let the dust settle. If anything, this keeps fanning the flame.

But I can't imagine we ultimately want to step into a season with a Battle Royale at the QB position. I every bit believe Romo could, and likely would, win that challenge, but will the franchise want to invite that controversy for an entire season?

The Niners could pull it off back in the day with Montana and Young, but it seems almost inconceivable for it to work in today's age. Every wayward Dak pass would bring out the boo birds, as would every Romo interception.

But ... if it were somehow manageable, it would be awesome. Having that kind of depth would be unheard of in today's NFL.

Who said it was a Battle Royale? The Brass came out and said it was Dak's team. And it was said it was Dak's team if he had one, two or three bad games. What my post was saying was Romo ALONE does not have the power or leverage to decide if he will leave. He's under contract. So, as far as I'm concern, he will be there until the front office decides to trade him or cut him (which I doubt). He may be a high priced backup, but he'll be there.

Jerry and Co will trot out the weasel words until this year's result determines the future course of action.

None of that was said, except in your nightly dreams.

Well, if you stop sleeping all day, maybe you would have heard it too. It was said on a radio show that Stephen Jones was on....smh. Some of you guys just won't quit.

Well it doesn't make a lot of sense that you have no plans to not have him and say that you think he could play another 5 years and win a Superbowl. You're not planning on him starting in Dallas in 3 or 4 years.

Such weird comments come from this guy sometimes.
Lets be honest he can say whatever he wants I'm convinced more now then ever Stephen and Will run this team

Radio shows from your dreams aren't real radio shows.

Jerry Jones is playing it smart hes not going to say hes free. We either trade him or keep him on the roster and our backup QB will make more than our starter. The fair thing to do would be to let Romo start elsewhere, but your not going to do that trade for peanuts. If you can pick up a mid second round pick you may do that. So we can go WR on one of our first two picks, then Defense everything else.

I never thought I'd say this as a huge Romo fan, but it's getting to the point where I almost can't wait till Tony is not on this team anymore so Jerry, and some fans are finally forced to actually move on.

This is like when VHS tapes had to be discontinued for some people to finally get a grip and move on to DVD, even though it was 2008. lol

Jerry is playing teams to try to spark a bidding war. I'm hoping for a 1st from Denver or the Jets. Build a package of picks and move up to get Derek Barnett, Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen. The latter two are probably going to be too expensive and this draft is seemingly rich at the spots we are in need. So maybe just keep the pick and fill holes. Depends on how they grade out the players.

You may be right.
I am hoping the two alphas can coexist if given a fair fight, at least for 2017.

lol, and I am not even a particular fan of Romo.
Just like having 2 franchise QBs in case 1 gets injured - especially when alternatives are Weeden and Sanchez of the world.
Also the idea of helping another superbowl contender is not attractive.
