The pandemic was not the only reason the NFL lost revenue, but whatever. Expectations this year will fall short.

Even though the NFL managed to play all 256 regular-season games and all 13 postseason games, the league lost a large chunk of money due to the pandemic.

According to Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, the league saw its revenue fall from $16 billion in 2019 to $12 billion in 2020. The league had expected to generate $16.5 billion last year, before the pandemic changed everything.

The NFL wiped out its entire preseason due to the pandemic. Also, attendance fell from more than 17 million to little more than one million.

The league undoubtedly will earn significantly more this year and beyond, given the expectation that many (if not most) stadiums will be full this year. Regardless, the $4 billion that was lost in 2020 isn’t coming back.

25% drop from nearly zero attendance and all the money that brings in and more and more people taking to streaming/DL'ing games...

I'm not exactly that concerned. They just need to be aggressive changing with the times and attendance is coming back.

I hate it when my business only brings in $12 billion a year. How will the owners survive?

Uh oh. We're giving the "I hope the NFL burns" crowd glimmers of hope. This will be their "proof" that it's really happening. Lol.

So the cap should be closer to 150 million this year if they wanted to get it all back at once? They're still going to take it back in future years I guess.

To be honest, I don't care if they lost money. Should I? I care more about a stray cat than I do the NFL's revenue stream. But I am glad the Cowboys are 20 million under the cap. I guess they updated.
