Our friend Adam Schefter of ESPN has written a book with free-agent coach Mike Shanahan, and Shanahan widely is believed to have Schefter on his speed dial. So, on one hand, anything Schefter reports about Shanahan has extra credibility. On the other hand, anything Schefter reports about Shanahan could represent an effort by Shanahan to disseminate a specific message, regardless of whether the message being disseminated by Shanahan is accurate.

Tonight, Schefter reports that Shanahan will not be coaching the Cowboys in 2010. Schefter explains that Shanahan is looking for more control than he'd have in Dallas.

Schefter also reports that Shanahan believes coaching the Commanders would be "appealing."

Of course it would be, especially since Shanahan has been talking to Commanders owner Daniel Snyder for months. Moreover, and as Schefter's ESPN colleague Chris Mortensen recently has reported, Snyder hired Bruce Allen to be the General Manager because Shanahan wanted Snyder to hire Bruce Allen to be the General Manager.

In this case, Shanahan could be using Schefter to get the word out that, if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones were to give the reins to a personnel executive like Bruce Allen, Shanahan might be interested.

It's also possible that Shanahan has received word from the Cowboys that, as Jay Glazer of FOX reported on Sunday, the Cowboys aren't interested in Shanahan. Thus, Shanahan likely would prefer the official word to be that Shanahan isn't interested in the Cowboys.

None of this is a slap at Schefter; he's simply doing his job. Given his relationship with Shanahan, we don't expect Schefter to express public skepticism about the things that Shanahan tells him.

Don't you have to be offered the job first? Just saying...

While empty in content I find this kind of thread more appealing than many others posted here.

At least it's third hand and not just idle speculation.

Shouldnt you go join all the other Saints apologist on your own board and all of yall can rationalize that the loss was actually a good thing (like some in the media are now saying???)

If we do make a coaching change, I haven't been sold on Shanahan anyway.

It seems like a marriage made from hell pairing a coach who hasn't won a playoff game in a decade and whose teams typically fade in December, with a team that hasn't won a playoff game in 13 years and who typically fades in December.

Unless Shanahan has Elway running his offense, he wont touch a ring.

Oh wait, unless he has Elway running his offense, and Davis to keep the pressure off of him, he wont touch a ring.

Shanahan is nothing.

Washington job is appealing:lmao:
If you have personnel control in the hands of someone you trust, you better believe it is.

An owner who'll spend, a huge media market, high draft pick, and a roster that isn't devoid of talent.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I don't quite understand the logic here.

Shanahan wants control. So that eliminates Dallas.

But if Jerry Jones hired a GM like Bruce Allen, it would be different?

If he wants control, he wants control. It should not really matter who the GM is.

Just when you think a sense of rationalism has taken root on the board, stupidity rears it's ugly head.

Care to tell us what the records of the Skins and Cowboys are at this point, genius?
