This is crazy........Florio even suggests Shcotty doesn't have a 100% guaranteed contract, which would be a first for me.

BTW.......Browns, Bengals, Titans and Cardinals head coaches should also be on this list.

Who’s on the hot seat entering the 2025 season?

4. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer.

The key to knowing Schottenheimer’s job security is to know whether and to what extent he has guaranteed money beyond 2025.

Usually, head coaches enjoy at least three years of guarantees. But there’s nothing usual about the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer.

He was on exactly zero teams’ short lists during the latest hiring cycle. For the Cowboys, who wanted to have offensive continuity for quarterback Dak Prescott, it was either Schottenheimer or Eagles offensive coordinator (new Saints coach) Kellen Moore. Schottenheimer came cheaper.

Brian Schottenheimer received a four-year contract to become the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. This contract, which ties him to the team through the 2028 season, was announced in January 2025, following the expiration of Mike McCarthy's contract. Schottenheimer had previously served as the Cowboys' offensive coordinator for the past two season

Were his contract details ever released? If so I missed it.

Unless he signed a one year deal he isn’t on any hot seat. It would have to be a total disaster beyond won loss record for him to deserve to be fired after one year.

Specifics of coaching contracts rarely are released.

The idea that Schottenheimer wouldn't have a fully guaranteed deal is an interesting one though, and Jerry did make comments this offseason about incentive based coaching contracts. It probably explains the Jerry/McCarthy break up a little better than strictly number of years on a deal. If Jerry was floating a non guaranteed deal which is nearly unheard of for coaches, McCarthy likely did feel disrespected while a long shot coach like Schottenheimer wouldn't be willing to take whatever to finally get his chance.

Very interesting dynamic if true.....

Forgot about that. Good point.

We knew that McCarthy got 5/30 right away though. Jerry probably robbed Shoddy.

He wants to be able to cut bait when guys can’t perform miracles with an inferior roster due to his own mistakes and not have to pay them. Scapegoat supreme.

I wonder if he is actually going to hire yet another HC before he goes away…one way or another.

Come on man. Those contracts don’t exist because good coaches wouldn’t touch them. Shotty did because he would have NEVER got a chance to coach. Why is that? He has sucked for 2 decades. He is an absolute bottom rung OC.

It would be a very Jerry thing to do...low risk / high reward. If Schottenheimer works out then Jerry looks like a genius. If not he could cut bait quickly and already has a comfortable hire auditioning in Eberflus.

Your hired Brian and for the first perk, here is the worlds shortest leash.

Shotty for sure got owned in contract talks. Nobody wanted him, nobody asked for him, Jerry got everything he wanted for that contract.

On the hot seat before Shotty coaches his first game?
Preposterous!
I am no fan of Schotty but it seems unfair to put him on the hot seat so soon.
Yoda does not fire coaches easily. He suffers fools (players) for years before he unloads.
So Schotty can look ahead for around 3 seasons of .500 footbsll before he is fired.

NFL coach contracts are typically guaranteed, and as you reminded me, this one may not be.

That would have been a huge reason he was hired and would be even worse than some of his other disaster reasons for making the hires he did in the past.

I still say it seemed as if McCarthy couldn’t get out of there fast enough, and yeah he was probably offered something similar. Shoddy didn’t even have an interview elsewhere and would have been much more open to hearing that…but yeah this is the guy that’s going to force Jerry into behaving differently. Lol.

The most valuable sports franchise on the planet going cheap wherever they can.

Thanks Jerry.
The franchise is valuable. That doesn't mean the owner has a ton of cash liquidity. Just go and read up on how the Lakers didn't have the cash to run like a modern NBA team -- literally the reason the Buss family sold last week.

It is becoming painfully clear that the Cowboys are on the same path. Refusing to guarantee coaching contracts. The constant foot-dragging on the big contracts. If he wants this to remain in the family, he is going to have to at least sell a piece of the team -- I'm sure the Saudi Public Investment Fund would be all over that.

Unless they go winless I doubt this. Tough schedule, newish staff, key starters still mending from injuries. You can't count on a winning season

Jerry was so scared of having to hire another Parcells. They tried to bring back McCarthy. They interviewed Kellen Moore. But they had the ultimate yes man down the hall.
