The Cowboys had to wait a long time to get linebacker Sean Lee back on the field after he tore his ACL last offseason, but it hasn’t taken long for the team to get a reminder of what they were missing.
Lee has been taking part in individual drills to this point in the team’s organized team activities, but that has been enough for coaches and teammates to feel his impact. Defensive end Randy Gregory called Lee a “great leader” and defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey said Lee’s “the team nerd” who knows everything about the defense. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli highlighted other things Lee brings to the table.
“He’s a ball of energy and excitement and that represents who we are,” Marinelli said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s moving well. We’re just being smart as we get him ready to go. But he’s got a lot of good quality work in.”
Lee is moving to the weak side this season as the Cowboys try to both capitalize on his speed and keep him healthy while playing covered up behind a defensive tackle. Both would be a big boost to the Cowboys’ chances of making another trip to the playoffs, although keeping Lee healthy for an entire season has proven to be an impossible task to this point in his NFL career.
