The off-season is long and no one knows the results until Jan/Feb. I'm sure most thought last off-season was terrible. That got us to 12-4 and playoff win. I look forward to 2015 and hope they keep doing what they have done lately, it looks to be working.

Generally I agree with you. But we have a 2-3 year window with Romo, Witten, perhaps even Dez if we cannot sign him to a mutually agreeable long term deal. This offseason, unlike last offseason, we know going in that we have a Playoff team. We are one dominant pass rusher away from having a respectable defense. We should not be bargain-basement shopping for that position IMO.

I don't think Hardy is a "value" type player. He's gonna cost $$$$

I also keep hearing different stories about how many games he'll be available this season. doesn't do any good to "buy" such a player if you only get 3/4ths of their time.

It'll be even worse when the comments are how signing the 2015 versions of Nate Livings, Brodney Pool, and Mackenzy Bernadau are incredibly smart signings by the Front Office.

I don't need us to sign "15 players within the 1st 2 hours" but that doesn't mean we have to sit out free agency either. Getting better is all I care about.

Good point. I don't expect them to sign anyone except maybe their own within the 1st week.

the so called walmart shopping has gotten them to this point, it was the Macy shopping they have done in the past that had killed them. Dallas has done a great job of putting a team together I think they know what they are doing.

Walmart shopping has nothing to do with Tony Romo, 3 first round OL picks, stealing Dez Bryant and Murray finally getting a full load.

If everyone is so cheap then we should have plenty of room to afford a big FA or two.

If the latest Federal Court ruling has any meaning the most he can get is 2 games.

i'd not call that a total killer on the deal then. 4+ games would be pretty significant. i don't follow the latest and greatest troubles on a player so i don't know the history behind whatever he's done to get in this trouble. if we look into signing him i'll do some research. :)

Value is a relative term. The key is what he said about not getting into a position of paying too much for a player.

The hard part is figuring out what's too much and what's fair value.

Well, they've already committed to 1 year and 12.8 mil for Dez and 4 years 13.8 mil for Beasley.

I'm glad we have both coming back...or most likely in Dez' case.

Brian Orokpo maybe......Hardy not a chance if it's pay commensurate to production.

Karl Klug or Tyson Alualu maybe.....Suh forget about it.

Cowboys want to utilize as much personnel up front on defense as possible, committing to either of those big ticket guys flies in the face of that theory, not to mention it further puts the salary cap out of balance.

The problem is that you will always overpay for a premium pass rusher in free agency, the question is how much and did you select a player that will actually give you a return on the investment.

I wonder if the Cowboys are indeed sold on the Marinelli platoon approach to the pass rush, meaning going after guys in the Mincey price range but more of them as to attack in waves.

Jerry even made a comment before the combine that a platoon of players instead of the "one" player would be the approach to the DL.

They may look in the bargain bin again and then the draft to fill the needs on the DL, I just do not think they are going to be active players in the first wave of free agency unless they find a player that works out a team friendly deal.

Not so sure about this. With respects to what a Pass Rusher like he might demand in FA typically, he could be considered a value player if they pay less for him, based on his recent circumstances.

Not a matter of cheap I'm tired of over paying for FA who never live up to the price they get. Dallas has done well by getting mid level hungry players as opposed to shooting the wad on over priced players who start coasting after they get what they want. You can have it, I'm glad Cowboys are getting away from that.

I think this is what we will do because we know how to do these "risk" deals and entice a player to sign. Think about this, two fliers we have taken on name players in the last five years, Pac Man and Melton, what did we actually pay out. Jones signed a non guarenteed contract and the trade we made we got our pick back, Melton made I believe the league min in 2014. Jones knows how to entice a player like that and protect himself.

The downside is those moves havent really worked out on the field

Right, but its worth a try. Cowboys have been good lately evaluating players recently since the stupid pacman debacle...

Might actually be a blessing for us, if that were to happen. I don't think it will, I think he will get zero suspension time but still, if he were to miss time, that's probably better. That would mean that he probably comes cheaper. We need him for the end, more then we do the start.
