I'm just fine with Mincey as a rotational guy.

He should not be a starting DE.

What if the other guy can get you 15-20 sacks? Do you still want the 6 sack guy even if he is a bargain?

I'm sure we could get a QB that makes 5m that will get 50% of Romo's numbers, doesn't mean we should

You can roll over any unused cap space. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not be able to get it. Once the season starts it's a lot harder to create cap space.

That's the rub, They're not in a position where they will need it and not be able to get it. It's a short phone call to Smith, Witten, or Romo and voila! Cap space. Once you redo a deal it's done. There's no going back and saying "Eh, we've changed our mind". IF the Cowboys can get some of the deal done that they want and NOT restructure some of these contracts (adding risk down the line) then there's no reason to do so just because you can "roll it over to next year". Next year is irrelevant when you've already risked pushing the cap hit down the line with 2 out of 3 players that are in the proverbial twilight of their careers. The risk has been taken at that point regardless of the kick down to next year's cap. Like I said. the Cowboys have all the cap space they need available to them the moment that they they need it. No sense in taking the restructure risk before it's necessary.

That doesn't make any sense. You can roll it over every year with no penalty. You say it's just a phone call, but you might miss out on some great deal because of the delay. Sometimes you can't let the player leave the room.

Dude be real. If they have a deal in place they have a deal in place. If the player is in the room and he's agreed to your terms he isn't going to jump ship because they have to call Romo up from the weight room to sign his restructure. SMH.

You can shake your head all you want, but your irrational fear of restructuring is not supported by the facts. Free agents might not even visit if they don't think you have the money.

I have no irrational fear of restructuring. You're "let's jump the gun and do some restructures that we may or may not need just for the sake of doing them" is idiotic. It's that simple.

Mincey was a very good signing.

22 solid to great starters being backed up by 20 Mincey-types on game day will CONSISTENTLY win games in this league. As a matter of fact, if the club can get Spencer back CHEAP as a backup, that would seriously ease my mind about the depth on the d-line. If you have a 2nd string DL of:

RE - Mincey
3T - McLain
1T - Brent
LE - Spencer

That would mean the club really improved the DL to a major strength of the team - almost on par with the OL.

That D-Line group gives us no pass rush.it's the same guys from this past year that can't get pressure.we are not going to win a championship with a D-Line like that.as much as i hate to say it. this

D-Law needs to make a slight jump next year and we need to grab a veteran DE in FA while drafting a young one that can come in on obvious passing downs.

We need to do whatever it takes to get a pass rush. this defense must get a lot better.or there is no chance of winning a championship.

Everyone wants a big time pass rusher, but it's not just about opening the purse and signing a guy who gets 12-15 sacks unless that's all you need. We can't break the bank for a stud DE when other teams are also trolling. Until the Carr thing is settled, we have only one decent CB under contract. We have two sub par safeties with little depth. We don't have three starting LBs signed yet. We lost a rotational DT and Spencer isn't with us, and we need a pass rush.

We have quite a few signings to make just to field a thinner defense than we had this year, but we have to resign enough guys to play football, and we have to do it before the draft and before overspending for a FA DL stud.

Unless the Dez contract gets done fast, along with 1-2 LBs, I don't see us even making a call during the Suh, Hardy, JPP auction. I'm betting we continue to work on our own free agents that we want and need, then we look at the second tier of DBs and DL, guys like Brandon Graham, guys who are not mega stars, but guys who do make us better so we can also draft wisely.

Our offense is built on stars across the board, so our defense, if it is to have stars, needs to find them in the draft while we constantly look to improve every position frugally.

It is obvious from last year and by comments from S. Jones that they will wait for the market to settle 7-10 days into free agency to start shopping.

The high end players will be overpaid as usual and as the market settles moderate priced players will be in the picture.

That is not to say that they will not sign anyone, it looks like they are working on their guys first and after the market settles, they will address other additions.

Then to the draft and post June cuts if anyone decent becomes available.

Suh and Hardy are likely out of our price range. We'll call just to get our name on the list. JPP got franchised.

Agreed. and that's the problem. players that could put this team over the top, are out of Jerry and Stephen price range. not good.
