I wonder if they are doing a slow walk, hoping for Ulbrich or Leonhard ( their preferred choices) to break loose. We know they could hire at least half of their candidates today.

Stephen Jones says Cowboys are making “good progress” in DC search

The Cowboys have interviewed or will interview nine candidates for their defensive coordinator position. That might not be the entirety of their list.

“I think we’re in the initial run,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told Tommy Yarrish of the team website. “We’re going to cast a wide net, whether it’s half a dozen, 10, 12 coaches when it’s all said and done. I don’t know what that number will be, but then we’ll narrow it down. We’re already starting to narrow it down, and we’ll start to bring guys in for in-person interviews, some of the guys that we felt were the guys that would fit.”

Yes, it's very likely they are slow walking this for Leonhard or Ulbrich, and these other guys are either backup plans or part of the staff. That said, Klayton Adams really came out of nowhere, so its possible Schotty takes a shot on an unknown with no DC experience. Just don't know Jerry's tolerance for that, when he's clearly in 'might die soon' mode.

Also very likely it all backfires and we simply promote Whitecotton and the entire staff stays the same.

“When you have the interview, you look for those traits,” Jones said. “Are they a great teacher? Can they communicate and verbalize complicated things in a way that makes it easy for the players, so he doesn’t have to be out there thinking?“

Now we know that Stephen has watched the Jim Leonhard video.

thats what i like about the jones fellas. jerry is gonna keep on diggin for gold and stephen will continue choppin wood

I laugh at some here and other places saying why are we dragging our feet - or why haven’t we interviewed so and so

Ok
In the past we just brought in the same retreads or promoted someone less deserving from within. This time we are talking to a big variety of styles and coaching tree disciples - maybe they already have their candidate and it’s one of those already spoken with or someone no one expects still employed ? I for one am happy to see the list of different names that to me seems somewhat outside of their normal comfort zone process .
Maybe they will just flip us all the bird and say well the best candidate was already here in house so boom introduce …..

Or maybe they hire the flashy name you all covet

But none of that will translate to wins or losses without actually seeing the personnel and all together and how it works

In for one just want a coach who will actually coach players and adjust schemes to strengths

Get the defense to at least middle of the pack

Only time will tell

I will patiently wait IF it means we are getting a great DC. But, if after all that time, a "has-been" or "someone from within" is hired, then I'll be angry. Right now....we wait and hope!!

From

To
- best shape of his life
To
- All In
To
- cast a wide net

Those guys are not cheap when it comes to using superlatives or anointing their own egos.

I love it. Cant wait for all the great wins we will be able to follow next season when their structured and well thought approach will show its fruits.

GO JONESES!!!!

Nothing wrong with doing a legitimate search. We just have to stay patient through the process.
Exactly. Nobody has been hired anywhere yet. Harbaugh is still negotiating. Not official. There might even be another HC opening up in GB. The front office is balking on extending Lafleur. We have 9 hc openings, could be 10 any minute. As far as coordinator searches, like you said, be patient. Time is in our side. No rush needed. Better to get this hire right.

If Leonhard is their guy there is nothing keeping them from closing the deal contingent on he’ll start after the Broncos are done. With all the new HC hired about to happen I’d recommend closing the deal on your guys sooner rather than later.

That is the most important thing, get the hire right! In prior years, they would bring in 1-2 at most and keep on changing their DC's every year.

They could have for all we know and this is just press speak so they don't look like they're jumping the gun for the league or something. Can Leonhard actually be signed at his point?
