One of the biggest criticisms in the wake of Super Bowl XLIV focused on the halftime show, which featured a couple of guys whom we vaguely recall openly choosing death before old age.

Apparently, not every birthday wish comes true.

So will the trend toward rockers-who-need-walkers continue, or will the event again skew a bit younger?

The next Super Bowl will be televised by FOX, and the guy who runs the show there recently was asked whether the halftime show will feature performers under the age of 60.

"Oh, please, God, yes," FOX Sports Chief Executive David Hill told Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times. "If I saw [Who guitarist] Pete Townshend's belly again I was going to throw up. In his younger days it might have been rippling muscle, but now it's like mine -- rippling fat. From the conversations I've had with the NFL, we won't need oxygen."

Generally, it's good news. Then again, there are plenty of younger acts that, well, suck.

We're officially pulling for Green Day, which would fit nicely with the perceived marijuana epidemic among incoming rookies.

I'm tired of watching these over the hill bands from yesteryear like the Who and the Stones performing at halftime of SB's. Their vocal cords are all shredded from decades of vocal abuse and they can barely move around on stage anymore. It's almost embarrassing watching these old geezers trying to relive their youth. The SB is the biggest most watched event on the planet they need to bring in the hottest young performers of today not from 40-plus years ago.

I think they should bring in that little ole band from Texas....ZZTop

Well I don't know if they are ant-flab or under 60 but I recently saw a concert show on VH1 and they still are rocking. Great songs.

The writting is on the wall, the eagles and mcnabb will not be in the superbowl next year. I approve this decision by the NFL

I really don't care one iota who they have for the halftime "entertainment" since I never watch the halftime show anyway. I caught all of about 30 seconds of this last one and that was more than for most SBs.

If the Cowboys are playing in the game I will be too concerned about the 2nd half of the game to really care. If the Cowboys are not then I would hope a band with some Texas flavor to it would be the halftime show.

You can almost guarantee a bit of Beyonce followed by a country or rock act.

A year is a really long time but Beyonce opening to be followed by U2 with Jay-Z would be quite nice.

All 3 acts put on a very good show and Jay Z has performed with U2 and Beyonce before.

That would cover a lot of ground imho.

Someone like George Strait to do the national anthem.

If it were just for my tastes I'd want Disturbed and Kid Rock. I'd have them play Cowboys and then Bodies for obvious reasons well beyond artistic merit. If the actual Cowboys aren't in the Super Bowl I could care less who sings.
