Another great venue and field for the year's final major.

The drama includes Rory coming back from the ankle sprain and trying to defend, Jordan going for the "US Slam" (without the British), and Dustin trying to make amends for losing here 5 years ago due to a 2-stroke penalty on the final hole.

The course is built along the western shores of lake Michigan, and looks like a links layout, but there are some trees, and it's not a loop. If you examine the topography, it appears that the fairways and greens are poured onto the naturally burly landscape, so that their surfaces are mostly elevated. That means missing the manicured stuff will be all the more penal. There are over a thousand bunkers, and some severe drop-offs and waste areas, so it would be better to catch the thick rough in most cases.

So, length and accuracy will be be rewarded, and inaccuracy will lead to some big scores.
All the world's top golfers are there, and it should be fun to watch -- on TNT.

McIlroy and Spieth are playing together. Sometime that leads to similar scores.
So far, not so good...as they are both only even par after 7.

Very early

David Lingbeth is -5 after only 8 holes. Dud is rolling so far.

leader is Dustin Johnson at -6 after 18. Familiar

As expected, the morning was a better time to be playing, with softer greens and less wind. the scoring showed that, and the reversal of tee times should even the leaderboard out today. Lingmerth had by far the best round, considering the afternoon conditions; if he plays that well this morning, he may have a 3-4 stroke lead by the end of the day.

Jordan and Rory should be able to score this morning, and I'm pulling for Phil also.

BTW, the greens are receptive, and there's not much terrain characteristic for bump and run -- more evidence that this is not a traditional links course.

Ha ha, John Dailey just put 3 balls in the water on a par three, then chucked the club in the water.

Made a kid on a boat's day as he retrieved it and kept it. Pretty funny!

Yeah, I saw that -- funny, but sad to see that he still can't keep it together.

Also painful to watch Tiger today. He's lost his touch, and is inconsistent with every club in the bag. Will be 40 next year; not sure if he gets it back. Probably not.

Iwata shot 63 (-9) an only hit 10 GIR. However, he had 10 birdie opportunities from inside 20-feet, so when he was missing he wasn't missing by a lot. And when he happened to miss by a lot, he jarred a 20 yard bunker shot and got up and down from a difficult spot on 18.

I still like Rose, Spieth and Day.

He came from lowly beginnings, lost his dad to stomach cancer when he was 12, and his mother had to sell her house to send him to Hills International College, to further develop his game. He's battled injuries and illness, been very close, and was due. Congrats - it was well deserved.

OTOH, Speith did achieve one major goal in defeat - he's now ranked #1 in the world.
Amazing year.

If Spieth didn't win then Day was my favorite. Great story and great guy.
Very, very deserving.
Congrats!

luck of the draw. Speith got screwed by high winds in the Open and PGA. Congrats to Day though, if you can bomb it 340 straight your gonna win a lot of tournaments.

He hit one 374 on one of the par 5s. Day played great on Sat and Sun, he drove the ball really well, made some great sand saves and hit pretty much all his 10 to 15 foot putts.

Was pulling for Jordan of course but was happy for Jason Day. Great tournament and was impressed how Day was able to respond when challenged by other competitors who also were playing very good.

Jason Day and Jordan Spieth talked trash to each other during their final round

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — It was all in good fun, of course. The two are friends and embraced each other after Day’s victory was confirmed.
Speaking after his final round on Sunday, Spieth was effusive in his praise for Day, even on the course. He talked their exchange after a particularly long drive from Day on the 11th hole:
“The tee shot on 11. The tee shot on 11, if he gets a little off line there, either way, he has to lay up and it’s probably a par. I thought at the time my ball was still going to be okay. It was going to be good enough to reach the green. Got a tough break in the rough to the side. But when he hit that tee ball and I walked up and saw where it was, I turned to him, I actually out loud turned to him and said holy ****! you know, and I yelled it over to him and I said you’ve got to be kidding me. And then he gave me a little bicep curl.”

Yeah, they're good buds.

That's one of the great things about golf -- the players can always respect each other because the competition is against the course, not the players.

Spieth was proud of his round and tournament, but Day was clearly putting on an epic performance (first ever major winner at 20 under), and Jordan was impressed; he had it that low for a while at the Masters.

True, normally when you can pressure a guy who has come up short in majors they will start giving strokes up but Day stayed pretty solid all day long.
One good thing the 2nd place puts Jordan as the Worlds #1 ranking
