Phil Simms on Romo signing

And go...

Like many experts have said over the last few months, Simms, an NFL broadcaster for CBS, says Romo is the main reason the Cowboys even had a chance at reaching the postseason in 2012.

“I think it was a good signing by the Cowboys,” Simms said. “If they wouldn’t have signed him and he became a free agent, everybody says, ‘Oh, just let him go.’ My God, there would’ve been teams doing cartwheels trying to get him. I think everybody in the league realizes the talent. I read some things that people said about Tony Romo.

“The Dallas Cowboys were probably a 4-12, 6-10 team last year and he was at least fighting to get them into the playoffs to the last game of the year. Now, we’ve all of a sudden created a new stat for Tony Romo, elimination games. We don’t say it about any other quarterback, but elimination games for Tony Romo because it sounds a lot better. ‘We can get more losses on that column.’

“But the guy is an unbelievable talent. And he had very little help at times in Dallas last year. If they get the team around him and the talent level hasn’t decreased, I think he really became a man and took over the Dallas Cowboys last year. And all that playoff stuff and everything, it doesn’t bother me at all. Let’s put it this way, if I was a head coach or owner or general manager, I would feel really good if Tony Romo was my quarterback and if he was out there I’d take him in a second and put my future on the line with him.”

The haters will disagree with Simms. :laugh2:

Every Cowboy loss is because of Romo, so the knuckleheads say!

The talent is there in Romo, we need star players to step up and others to play smart. What get Romo in trouble is trying to do to much, start functioning as a team both sides of the ball and they can get there. But if all we are going to do is say ok Romo now go out and win it then it is not going to happen. It does not happen for any other QB either

I heard that two days ago. I thought he was spot on. Pretty much all the ex football guys support the signing and Tony as a player with the exception of McNabb.

So do we believe and listen to the likes of Skip Bayless and Stephen A Austin or people that have actually played the game?

Just curious if you think any loss, ever since he has been a quarterback for this team, could be attributed to Romo?

Your answer could put you in the same category as your insulting haters comment, but polar opposite.

So for a change how about answer a question I ask you?

But, he's the QB...he touches the ball on every snap. He gets paid lots of money to win games...HE'S THE ONLY PLAYER ON THE TEAM THAT IS HOLDING THE TEAM BACK!!!!

Come on man....get wit the program.

Take a hike...I'm done with you.

I have told you many, many, many times that I will never lay blame on one man out of 53!

Once Science can clone 53 Romo's and put them on the field and they lose, then I will blame Romo.

Get it?

Oh...the one game that I do blame Romo on is the hold in Seattle during his first start.

I have no issue saying that yes Romo has contributed to loses. I would never claim him as Super Man above making critical mistakes. Then again Peyton has made them, Rodgers has made them as had Brees and even Brady.

Romo will not be the sole reason we win or we lose the reason we win or lose will be because we have a competent team who plays hard, smart for 4 qrts of football.

Thanks for validating exactly what I thought. This is about Romo, Romo Romo and nothing else.

Ignore the Jets game two years ago. Or Detriot. Or Pittsburgh a few years back. Critical interceptions at critical times are always a team problem.

Funny how when pressed for you to make a serious comment you lash out.

See ya, buddy.

Phil has always been favourable to Tony. He is right in this case for sure. Without Tony, we are fighting for the top overall draft choice.

I think very much there are plenty of examples to show we win solely because of Romo. I like the guy.

But I am not so blinded by his stats that I also don't see him lose games too. Unlike others who defend this guy to the Nth degree, he is human, and in my eyes capable and has shown he can lose a game all by himself.

Team sport only goes so far. And I wonder if the roles were reversed back in December and RGIII tossed a game ending pick, if the ones defending Romo now like blind mice, would have been the first to make claims such as "he's not as good as they say," and "Romo is so much better and this proves it."

It's all about validating one player on this team.

Although Romo makes mistakes during a game, so does everyone else.

I've played organized sports and I know what it takes for a TEAM to come together and win a game. Just like your son in hockey...the boy cannot do it alone, he needs help!

But, foolish people that have never played organized sports, or just don't have simple logic cannot see that. It's really sad...

Like I've heard said on here but put a little differently, Romo is the reason the 'Boys went 8-8 instead of 6-10, and Romo is the reason the 'Boys went 8-8 instead of 10-6. It's the SOS for Qb's: Too much credit or too much blame.

i know you weren't asking me but i will answer anyhow!

the qb has more say on who wins or loses than any other single player. even so, there are only a few games that i can honestly put on romo's back. the latest one would be the final game from last year. he played bad, plain and simple.

there have been so many more games (in my opinion) that romo was the primary reason the cowboys had a chance to win. i would put the ratio at 5-1 or even more.

all this talk about letting romo walk was crazy. have we already forgotten the years after aikman retired?

Yeah Phil Simms also thought Jason Campbell was great, how did that turn out? Not trashing Romo but I wouldn't treat Simms words as gospel, he can be a QB apologist.

I am not slandering Romo. Just breaking up the phelgm that accumulates with the hater comments because that justifies the unconditional Romo excuse.

And I agree we have won because of him so many times.

I am just weary of the racing to the site to start the excuse-a-thon for this guy when he clearly throws the game losing pick.

The Jets game sent me over the edge as he gave the ball away twice and yet the usual suspects lined up to ignore the Revis pick and game changer.

I don't believe lovers gonna love is strong enough.

Unrelated to Romo, but I think the Commanders screwed up Jason Campbell. If he had the same opportunity as Kaepernick with a coach like Jim Harbaugh and a steady team/organization around him, he would probably have become a decent starting QB.

every qb in the nfl has cost his team games. every qb in the nfl has won his tea games. with romo he has won us more than he has lost us by a long shot
