A judge acquitted a former Philadelphia police lieutenant accused of assaulting a Hispanic woman during the city's Puerto Rican Day parade.

A video of Lt. Jonathan Josey punching the woman, 40-year-old Aida Guzman, in the face went viral last year. The victim's lawyer called the decision "an injustice to the Puerto Rican-Hispanic community."

In a jury-free trial, Municipal Judge Patrick Dugan ruled on Tuesday that Josey was not guilty of simple assault. Josey was fired from the police department shortly after the Sept. 30th incident, following public outrage over the video.

Dugan said he was "shocked" by it but said the media "sensationalized" the incident and the "infamous" video clip did not capture the entirety of what happened. The decision was met with loud applause in the courtroom filled with police officers, according to the The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Could he have not just told her to turn around, or get on the ground, .. and then handcuff her?

Situations like this are what set Dorner off.

I would guess Dorner being a crazy lunatic had a role in his actions also. Normal people do not assassinate the daughter of their lawyer. He was a sick pup. I am glad they burned him to the ground before he killed more innocent people.

Your right, he was sick and his actions were unjustifiable. However, his motivations should not be discounted just because his actions were deplorable. It would benefit us as a nation to examine the triggers that set-off radicals in order to prevent future such occurrences, domestically and internationally, instead of simply turning a blind eye to the potential injustice which fuel their fire.

Did you read his manifesto? A large part of his grievances were concerning police brutality and their wonton disregard for civilian's lives and rights.

That is because Dorner was unbalanced. The wrong flavor of ice cream on his cone might be enough to set a person like Dorner off.

I don't think study is a bad thing. It is always better to understand what cause and effect entail but studying those things will not prevent them. People are unbalanced and it is illogical to assume that society and more to the point, the behavior of a society should somehow be altered in order to accommodate a person who is unbalanced. The truth is that we will never be able to correct those situations. Unbalanced people are never going to fit society.

An equally large part of his manifesto was in his own head.

I could only read so much from a raving lunatic...that is what happens when someone goes around killing innocent people...others don't give them the benefit of the doubt.

I see what you are saying and I do not mean that we should bend to the will of these people, but in the case of Dorner, there were some very specific allegations against the LAPD—of which he was a former member—that should have been investigated. One such allegation, the blatant disregard for civilian lives, ironically displayed in the hunt for Donor what the LAPD erroneously gunned down several civilians. I think this is the same issue we have overseas—instead of fixing the root of a problem, we burn the tree while three more grow in its place.

My understanding is that they were investigated and that they were found to be unfounded.

Same with his charges in the Navy.

The situation overseas, I take to mean the War in the Middle East? Suffice to say that I really don't agree with that take as further discussion of that would, no doubt, prove to be too political.

Most cops don't go around writing manifestos and killing family members or fiances of people they don't like.

You can try and turn this in any way you want...it just makes you look silly.

Dorner in no shape or form should be looked up to. He may have made valid points about things but he screwed up so bad that it ruined what message he was trying to get across and in doing so he was flat out STUPID!

Chasing tails to defend the guy will never be accepted by the sane.

Please don't take my posts as defending him or looking up to him. There is no excuse for murder and I do not approve of or defend his actions.

Won't read his manifesto but revenge is an old motive. Maybe he was crazy on top of this but functional psychotics work off the same motives and defense mechanisms 'normal' people do. If you want to argue no sane person would do what he did I won't argue at all. But it appears revenge was his motive and that is as old as we are.
