He's got the size to play the ILB spot in the 3-4. Wade's 1 gap system gives Dallas more flexibility since you don't need to be a huge ILB to play the 2 gap scheme that Parcells/Zimmer had here. The same thing goes for NT as both Ratliff and Tank played well there despite being undersized because they didn't have to worry about occupying 2 gaps and could just shoot 1 gap.
Oh, I agree, but Rex Ryan's was the same way and they had to convince Ray Lewis to play in it. Sometimes players are just that way. I'd be 110% for it, depending on the contract.

Asante Samuel or Marcus Trufant. I think Jerry will pull the trigger on one of them.
Newman + Asante
Henry will move to FS, Hamlin to SS.

On obvious passing downs, Watkins comes in at FS, Henry moves to CB.

Nickelback will be drafted in the first round this year.

Newman
Asante
Draft pick (Caison, Talib)
Henry (only in obvious throwing downs)
Hamlin

I think RW will seriously get shopped around this year. There may be no takers, but Wade and Jerry will do something with him.
------------------------------------------

I believe Briggs will also get strong consideration. It would not shock me to see him here. He would fit perfectly
--------------------------------------------

We will give a 2nd round pick, and a player to Detroit for RW. RW wants to be here, everyone knows it, and we must get younger at the position. I would be shocked if this didn't happen

Julius is gone obviously, unless nobody else wants him and he resigns here to be a #3 back.

We draft the best RB available in the 2nd round (if we dont' use it for RW)

Other first round pick will be a WR. Hopefully Bowman.

Oh wait.........I just read the part of your post where you said...."not what you want to happen, but what you think will happen"...............my bad.

I think he will try to fix the secondary to where he can line them up man to man and use his blitz packages. This year he wasn't able to do that because of the early injuries to Newman and Henry, and the lack of ability of Roy and Reeves.

I also think we will have at least one new WR and obviously a RB as well. I hope we don't use another draft pick on a DE/OLB.

If that happens, i will literally,Calmly turn off my tv, place the Remote down, walk into my room, lock the door, and just lie on my bed.

Second post in a row that I really like your thinking. Picking up a quality corner in free agency and then moving Henry to FS and Hamlin to SS seems like a really good idea.

But is the CB to FS transition a realistic one? Does anyone know of players that have done that or something similar in the NFL?

Key departures: OT Flozell Adams, LB Akin Ayodele (always thought he was too small to play ILB in the 34), WR Terry Glenn, RB Julius Jones, CB Nate Jones, CB Jacques Reeves, RB Tyson Thompson, CB Anthony Henry (He couldn't cover a twin size bed with a queen size comforter)

Key additions: FA CB Drayton Florence as our nickel CB, FA LB Ray Lewis (We need a leader on defense, and I know he's a shell of his former self, but an upgrade over Ayodele)

1st round draft picks:
CB Antoine Cason or best CB available (CB was our main weakness in 07')
Trade other 1st rounder and 3rd rounder for WR Chad Johnson (Hey it could happen lol)
If Chad Johnson trade cannot happen, draft WR DeSean Jackson because of his big play ability in the punt return game and the WR game (although I know Jerry won't because he has put all of his faith in a converted QB to WR in Stanback)

It Is More Common From College To Nfl But I Don't Think It Is Very Successful In The Nfl After That Point. And Isn't It Usually From Safty To A Cb When It Happens From College To Nfl?

At 250 pounds? How big do you want them?

Ugh...

Henry >>>>>>>>>>> Florence

LB Ray Lewis (We need a leader on defense, and I know he's a shell of his former self, but an upgrade over Ayodele)
And he's smaller than Ayodele.

Cornell Green, Ronnie Lott, and Rod Woodson if I had to guess. I would think that CB to FS would be more of a natural transition than a CB to SS. Charlie Waters might not agree.

After years of slapping bandaids on the same problems over and over, I am a little wary that Wade is just saying what the media wants to hear. I mean it's a given with a draft and today's free-agency that there will be some changes. Saying that doesn't really mean much.

When will the team get strong CB depth.
When will the team address the SS position in terms of pass coverage
When will the team get a punt returner, and possibly a kickoff guy too (although Austin has been pretty good for 2 seasons, he's not a natural)
When will the team either scrap the fullback position or get a veteran to go with the young guys or project that is on the team
When will we address the youth at WR with a guy that has more than a 20% chance of making it further than the 4th WR?

I know we couldn't do it all and that I give the org credit for fixing the Oline and Dline to the best of their ability (other than the Parcells old man obsession for a bit there). I have to say we got a bit lucky at QB with Romo but we did turn over 1 million stones there as well.

I thought the stubborness problem was solved with the departure of old school Parcells, but Phillips did similar things with the huge corner cushion schemes and the steadfast refusal to address Roy Williams.

I'm still cranky, and I know some of what I'm typing ain't fair, but I think this team needs some chemistry changes.

Amen brother.

We need to re-sign Hamlin, move him to SS. Grab us a GOOD FS. Possibly draft a #1 corner, move Henry to FS, draft WR with the other #1 - and another CB with the #2. I don't care. Our secondary needs to be addressed. Roy needs to go. No more defending him. If you have to defend a player for three straight seasons, it's time he goes.

Whatever we do, I hope we get another corner that can actually play ... so we can run some man, or some press. Additionally, we NEED another WR. Injuries happen, and are more frequent with age. We need to be prepared. No more Crayton starting #2 for an entire year. Let him be the slot guy.

He did address Roy, though, didn't he? As much as you can someone paid as much as he is anyway. Taking Roy off the field in passing downs was a pretty big deal. If Watkins wasn't hurt we probably would have seen more of it at the end of the year.

There was only so much Phillips could do with Roy this year. He didn't have any strong candidates to simply replace him with. Maybe Wade and Jerry really will address that area in the offseason.

Well, Roy was in there on an awful lot of passing downs Sunday. And not in a position to help either, yet it seemed to be a guy he was partially responsible for covering that made catches or a zone area that he was suppossed to be around where the ball went.

I know he got subbed a bit 2/3 of way into season, but then a few injuries back there, etc.

Heck, I'd play him on special teams and use him on short yardage and that's about it at this point, unless he turned it around slowly. Cap or no cap.

It isn't enough to address it 10-20% of the time, but maybe it just always happened when he was out there and he did get subbed more.

I know Roy is a scape goat for many here, but I keep harping on coaching. If someone can't or won't do something, quit putting them in that position.

I agree with you man. I wouldn't be disappointed with Watkins at FS and Hamlin at SS b/c we can't have all-stars at every position. I agree Roy needs to go. Crayton may be the best #3 WR in the league. We need a speedy deep threat to compliment T.O. which will allow Owens to do what he does best, which is run those short and intermediate crossing routes and turn them into HUGE plays. I think Chad Johnson would be the perfect compliment to T.O.

Of course, CBs lose their speed when they get older. However-they NEVER lose their ball-hawking instincts(assuming they have this, which some CBs don't).

As we all know, Henry may be slow in molasses, but he IS a ball-hawk. He SHOULD make a decent FS. But my concern is whether he can stay healthy or not.
