Picked up pieces from the Chiefs' game

Keith Brooking was a mad man Sunday. He was all over the field. He is an emotional leader. He makes plays when it matters most. He had a sack for the first time since 2007, but he came up with an unreal tackle of Jamaal Charles on a screen play.

He was cut by guard Mike Goff, which should have given Charles an opening. Instead Brooking scrambled to his feet and made the tackle. An unreal effort.

** Brooking's 7-yard sack in the second quarter was also a momentum swinger. Leading 10-0, the Chiefs moved to the Dallas 47 on a 20-yard completion to Dwayne Bowe but a blitzing Brooking came up with a sack on the next play. The Chiefs eventually punted.

** David Buehler is a big, big weapon. Not only does he have his touchbacks but he is placing the kickoffs outside the numbers in the corner, limiting returns. One thing to note - most of his kickoffs go to the right. He attemped one kickoff to the left and didn't hit it good.

** The running backs did a better job at picking up the blitz in this game than in any other. Marion Barber can stone blitzers. Tashard Choice prefers the chop move, but on Miles Austin's winning touchdown Choice came up with a nice pick up of safety Jon McGraw. The Chiefs rushed seven on that play.

** Martellus Bennett hasn't been involved in the passing game much, but he and Jason Witten are a big reason why the running game is so effective. They can seal edges and did so on Tashard Choice's TD run and big 24-yard pickup in OT. They also did it on a 17-yard gain by Barber. They're strong at the point of attack.

** Jay Ratliff attempted to deflect credit for his blocked field goal to Marcus Spears and Igor Olshansky but there's not another nose tackle that can make that play. He noticed Goff and longnsapper Thomas Gafford lowered their heads at the snap to get leverage. Twice before Ratliff attempted his leapfrog. He nearly got Ryan Succop's 38-yarder. I can't believe the Chiefs weren't prepared for the same move.

** Why are the Cowboys having such a hard time getting a play in? Twice in the first half they had to call a timeout before the playclock ran out. On the first, Miles Austin was late to the huddle and they get the line until 11 seconds left. On the second it was down to 12 seconds and Patrick Crayton was in motion with three seconds left before Tony Romo called a timeout.

** Mat McBriar was unable to spin the laces away from Nick Folk on Folk's 40-yard field goal try that was hooked to the left. On the TV copy you see McBriar grab his helmet in disbelief.

** Are the Cowboys somehow tipping their screens? The Chiefs snuffed out two of them in the first half to running backs and we didn't see one called again.

Might be the most athletic D Lineman in the league. Hard to believe the Cowboys have gotten so lucky twice in the 7th round.

I too would like to know what the deal is because this crap has got to stop. By the time this team lines up they have so little time they can't really even adjust to the defense if they want.

What could really be taking so long? Its unacceptable to burn timeouts because you can't get the play in on time. This has been a long term problem as well. Somehow Dallas finds itself racing the clock to get the snap off time and time again each game.

Just not good. I hate him but Antonio Pierce read the Dallas offense like a book and adjusted just prior to the snap and Dallas could do nothing about it. You would think a few teams might try to put that into their game plan. It would be a pretty ballsy move and would be high risk but making late adjustments against Dallas or hiding your alignment until little time remains might throw a monkey wretch into the offensive plans.

That's a stretch. This league has some unreal players.

Mario Williams, Julius Peppers, Justin Tuck, Osi, Freeney.

For his size Haloti Ngata is UNBELIEVABLY athletic.

Even the Bears just drafted that kid who jumped out of the pool.

Rat is a monster and is every bit as good of a DT as any in the league but he isn't near the top when it comes to athleticism.

And Kudos to the front office for locking him up through 2012.

seeing Rats play live I was like thats a penalty... then they show the replay and he clears to grown men from a 4point stance!

I love that guy! Watch Jerry will spend the next 5 years trying to draft another Rat... like he did with Haley back in the 90s!

Roy Williams was WIDE open coming on a drag route that could have gone for 6 and Crayton was open for a first down behind the defense as well.

Pierce might have called it, but only a horribly bad pass from Romo saved the Giant's bacon.

There are many times in the past game where the offense is getting to the line with 8 seconds to go, Romo views the defense, adjusts blocking, and snaps the ball with 2-3 seconds left. It's an improvement from the first two games.

Jeez, why the negativity??? Rat is extremely athletic for an interior DLineman, likely top 3 in the entire league. It's not like the guy who mentioned Rat's athleticism was exaggerating, there have been MANY broadcasters who have pointed out this very thing each time the Cowboys have played this year.

Yes he is.

I was traveling this weekend and just got to see the replay of the game tonight. We dominated KC and only shot ourselves in the foot. Two dropped TDs, what should have been two lost fumbles, and a missed FG in the first half alone, and we beat them anyway.

Our defense played better than I expected after reading the overreaction on this board the last few days. Romo played a really good game, our run blocking and our blitz pickup was good. We blew it with penalties and the TO differential again. There's a lot to work on over the bye, but we're still a good team that has the opportunity to be very good if they address the chronic problems with TOs and the two-minute defense.

I don't think it was negative. I was simply pointing out that Rat has some serious competition.

When did negativity become synonymous with sensible?

Not anywhere near the top? C'mon man. Get real. If he wasn't athletic, don't you think he wouldn't be making plays in the opposing team's backfield or blocking field goals? For an undersized DT, he is very athletic, and has a motor that won't quit.

That all takes athleticism. Who cares if he can't jump out of a pool. :p:

That's Rats biggest attribute. That and he plays smart.

I'm not knocking the guy, I'm just saying there are guys who overshadow Rat in terms of athletic ability.

Julius Peppers played basketball for UNC.

Its not like I am making him out to be a lesser player because of it. I said he plays the position as good as anyone. He just isn't as athletic as some of the other DL out there.

Do you realize that Rat was a converted TE? That he ran a 4.7 40 at just under 300 lbs???? You are not being sensible here when you say that Rat is NOT a top athlete, especially for his position.

I think you're taking this the wrong way. Saying Rat isn't as athletic as the list I put out there isn't the same as saying the guy is a bum.

Chill out a bit.

And this is why, although a very unpopular opinion on the boards, I don't see the rabid hatred people have for Red. Some calls are suspect, but what OC in the league doesn't have calls that fans question. We are the #1 offense in the league (hey, you play who you play - that includes the Gints and the Broncos) and I fully believe it is more a product of holding ourselves back (being undisciplined) vs. teams actually scheming to beat us and bad playcalling. If we had limited penalties just think where our O would be.

Will we get things corrected and do something ths year? Honestly, I don't feel great about it, but if we do all the questions regarding Red's playcalling will be moot in my opinion.

Fire away!

I agree completely! What other NT could clear two guys to get a block up the middle like he did. Very few. I think he is extremely athletic and excellent points!

If he had qualified it to interior D-Lineman, I don't think there's an arguement that Rat isn't the most athletic.
