A pit bull stopped five people from robbing a home and may have saved his owners life.

Christopher Payne told Bibb County sheriff's deputies when a group of people tried to rob him his dog Dino attacked and scared off intruders.
But Christopher said his 120 pound pit bull Dino is a friendly playful dog.

However Tuesday night Dino jumped into action when two men trying to rob him knocked on the door.

"I answered the door," Payne said. "When I answered the door a guy put a gun to my head and walked me in here. That's when Dino come out." He said Dino came out and attacked the men.

"He's was jumping on them, biting them. I don't know if he latched on to any of them, but they didn't want to stick around to find out," said Payne.

Lieutenant George Meadows with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said that distraction allowed two other women in the house to run next door and call 911.

Meadows said the two men inside and three more outside the home drove off, but minutes later a sheriff's deputy arrested 21-year old Dennis Andre Searcy, 19 year old Brandon Garrett, 18 year old Joey Tidewell, 19 year old Eric Lamar Jackson, and a 16 year old juvenile.

They face several criminal charges including armed robbery and false imprisonment.<br>Payne said Dino knows he was a good boy.

"He knows he done something good cause he been acting different. Every time someone comes to the door he's at the door."

But now Payne said Dino's back to playful licking and tail wagging.

Just watched the video and boy is that guy shady. People like that give Pit Bulls a bad name. Wonder what these thugs were after at this dude's shack anyway?

Bet money this wont make much of a ripple in national news. But if this same dog bit an "Innocent" person every national news station would be headlining it

It's true that the media loves the hysteria whipped up via sensational monster PB stories infinitely more than feel-good pieces.

Ha. I don't even lock my door! I do leave 3 leashes with large choke collars on the front porch, though.

Same thing goes for guns.

Homeowners regularly defend their families and their homes with firearms, but those stories are never reported.

I used to have a pit and always joked I wasn't afraid of someone robbing my house. There would be plenty of DNA evidence left behind. :D

Sounds like the man should move the peep hole down to Dino's eye level and let the dog answer the door.

Who opens the door without checking who it is first?

But then again, robbers may have been wearing girl scout uniforms. That would have fooled anyone... even Dino.

You'd think that knowing he was about to be on TV, the guy could at least have found a clean pair of pants to put on...

No way that particular pit weighs 120 pounds, either... I'll wager he's at least 25-30 pounds lighter than advertised...

I was thinking the same thing. Whats funny is REAL pit bulls do not weigh 100+ lbs. They should be in the 50-70 lb range (70 being pretty heavy)

Why do you think he asked his face not be shown? He was probably afraid his Mom would be watching.

Yeah, when I read Vick's indictment, I noted that all the dogs listed seemed to be right around 50 pounds...

Unfortunately that is the desirable weight for fighting :bang2:

Most people don't know how great these dogs are at other sports. The weights they can pull are amazing. One dog I have seen has won several frisbee competitions. You can look for him on youtube. Look for Wallace the Pit bull

Pit bulls killed/maimed over 700 people between 1982 and 2006 (that's about one every week). I haven't noticed that pit bull attacks have made national news headlines every week (or just about any week, for that matter).

The majority of the time the dogs that are being called pit bulls are not pit bulls at all. On top of that instead of looking at the dog look at the owner. There is no bad dog. Just bad owners. Punish the deed not the breed. I have owned pit bulls my entire life and have never had one that would hurt a person. Now dogs and other animals are a different story. Animal aggression and Human aggression are two separate issues

From here, the data "covers only attacks of dogs of clearly identified breed type or ancestry." Which means the numbers are on the low end.

Whatever. It's still not national news when pit bulls attack people.
