As I posted earlier, my son and I have gotten tickets thru Stub Hub for a guys wekend. Longhorns/Texas Tech Sat. nite and Cowboys/Giants Sunday night. Just wondering where would be the best place to stay that won't cost and arm and a leg? Should we stay near the stadium, near the airport, or in another area? We're arriving late Thursday morning and leaving Monday aftenoon. Also, what places to you suggest visiting, eating at. I'm so looking forward to this as we've never been to Texas. Thanks for any and all help.

Brickman, are you staying in Austin Thurs-Sat for the game there and only spending Sun. night in DFW .... or will you be staying in DFW every night and driving to Austin just for the game?

Thinking of staying in DFW Thurs and Friday, driving to Austin Saturday for the game. Should I stay Saturday night in Austin (as we probably will be drinking)? And then come back to DFW for Sunday and the game. How far is it from DFW to Austin and how long does it take by car?

You're a good 3-31/2 hours from Dallas to Austin. So Yes, please stay in Austin, do not drink and drive or you may find yourself seeing more of Texas than you care to...Get up Sunday morning and head back.

That's just what we planned on doing. Any suggestions for where to stay in DFW?

If your not looking to get drunk and see strippers or whatever and you are looking for a nice new place to stay close to the new stadium.

Then right down 360 from the stadium, about a 15 minute ride on 360 there are 3 brand new hotels on 287 in mansfield. Now, like I said, this is the suburbs, its quiet, across the street there are the usual cookie cutter restaraunts...chili's, etc....and around the corner on debbie lane there are local restaraunts. You are about 10 minutes south of the parks mall where every cookie cutter restaraunt under the sun is., 5 minutes to the new waterpark and about 10 minutes to I-20 which you could jump on to go to fort worth or east to Dallas.

here is the marriot fairfield inn, which is brand new, they finished building it last fall.

there is also a la quinta
http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ6048&propId=6048&savedSearchQuery=%2Flq%2FproxySearchRes.do%3FsearchCity%3DMansfield%26searchState%3DTX%26searchRadius%3D30%26indate%3D04%252F21%252F2009%26availability.palsra_IND_D%3D21%26availability.palsra_IND_M%3D04%26availability.palsra_IND_Y%3D2009%26outdate%3D04%252F22%252F2009%26availability.palsra_OTD_D%3D22%26availability.palsra_OTD_M%3D04%26availability.palsra_OTD_Y%3D2009%26availability.palsra_RPC1%3D%26availability.palsra_CCN1%3D%26availability.palsra_NRM%3D1%26mapProvider%3DMapQuest%26searchType%3DGEO%26promocorp%3D

and a holiday inn which is also brand new
http://www.holidayinn.com/h/d/ex/1/.../1/en/hotelsearchresults&rpb=hotel&start=null

so again, if you not looking to hanging out at the W hotel, and you are just looking for a clean quiet place where you can get food and relax, then these places are perfect. I am from Utica, Ny originally and if you were to stay here you will feel like you are on I-90 in utica, syracuse, rochester etc........

If anyone is coming for any games this year, and is looking for just a place to stay and not the nightlife I would reccomend these new hotels...And you can go from the hotel to the new stadium in approx. 15-20 minutes and avoid all the major highway traffic and most likely 90% of the traffic coming from the south like this.

Thanks. I'm past the stripper portion of my life. I'm looking to just be able to go out, have fun and a few drinks. At 54, the heavy partying was years ago ... the old bones can't handle that now.. How far is that area in Mansfield from the airport?

Try to stay down by the famous "6th Street" in Austin. A great time for walking around and drinking and seeing live music.

There is a nice Laquinta in Euless. 5 minutes from the DFW airport. 7 miles right down 157 to the stadium.

1/2 mile from my bar. You and your son can come in the bar before / after the games. :)

I'll be at the game also.

to get to the airport it is one road! 360 north and it will take between 25 and 40 minutes depending on the time of day. the new stadium is right off 360 about halfway in between.

the nice thing is, you dont have to take any highways and can avoid most traffic by using cooper street to collins and that is right to the stadium. Most of the traffic when coming in and going out is going to be from the northeast and northwest. You will be coming from directly south and I am hoping should be able to get back on collins or 360 south immediately after the game......This is my way of getting there.

JazzCat,

Is that the LaQunita on Airport Freeway. Looks nice and very inexpensive. Also, kind of central to both the airport and stadium. We just might take you up on your invitation to the bar. What type of bar is it and what is it called?

The La Quinta is by Highway 183 [which is Airport Freeway] & S. Industrial Blvd, [which is also 157 and turns into Collins when you get to Arlington]. It is reasonably priced. Or use to be. Probably less than $70. There is a Micro Hotel, or something like that right by it for a little less. But a decent place also.

My son is still working on it, but the website is www.thedenrocks.com
If you go to the link about maps and link to google street or whatever it is called. You can get a view of the area.

My place is just a regular neighborhood bar. Called, The Den. Bought it a little over a year ago. The previous owner wanted to retire. Known her for about 11 years, so it was a nice smooth transition.
