I am confused...we seemingly draft well (this year's was tremendous and forget about Carpenter), yet we cannot seem to understand the talent we have...

Examples:

F Jones: Does not see the field nearly enough in the season???

T Choice: Sits until barber gets hurt (he couldn't have been used to ease Barber's work load after Jones went down)???

C Proctor: Is this really all we have when we kept almost 10 OLineman coming out of preseason????

B Johnson: NO ONE could tell during practice that he could no longer compete at this level???

Paulesco: This is really the best FA punter out there???

What gives? We can project and/or see talent, but have no idea how, or when, to utilize it????

I think a lot of people get caught up in the top performers and forget about the back ups, etc.

I expect the FO and the coaching staff to pay more attention to important areas of the team, I.E., back up QB etc. And we need to have the guts to play rookies if it's obvious they are better than the vet player, even if the vet player is good himself.

Play the best players ,period. (yeah I said period)

Among other adjectives, this coaching staff is stubborn, conservative, risk averse and unimaginative. They aren't going to play rookies very much unless they have to and they would rather go with the guy they have at a position (Brad Johnson, Paulescu) than risk churning the roster. They have brought in a few special team guys, but that seems more due to injury than actually churning the roster to weed out underperforming talent.

Given the amount of injuries virtually every team has every year, I think it's wise to rotate new and old guys from the beginning wherever possible

You risk a little by playing some rooks, but if you take a long term approach, you're developing your draftees and helping to keep your vets healthy and fresh at the end of the year.

Plus, if you discover you actually drafted well, you make the team that much stronger.

Felix Jones - probably would have seen more carries as the season went on. Have to understand he was running the ball and also returning kicks - you can't have him out there getting hit too often.

Tashard Choice - no excuse that it took 12 weeks to see that the kid can play.

Corey Procter - cut him, although he hasn't folded COMPLETELY at LG, he's been bad.

Brad Johnson - no excuse. There is no reason this guy should even be on the team. We would have been better off with Daunte Culpepper as our backup, and I'm dead serious on that.

Paulescu - you have to understand that if there were any better guys out there, we would've signed them. Besides, everyone looks like a bum trying to punt after Mat McBriar.
