Player the defense really misses

Barry Church.

For all the average play the SS brought to the defense, guy could tackle. Denver and LA both took advantage of Heath and his inability to tackle the RB on passes out of the backfield.

Anderson faked Heath out of his jock for a TD and Girley did the same sunday, leaving Heath on his back side.

Church is definitely missed. I have been supportive of Heath, and believed in him, but he is just AWFUL. He looked good as a reserve, but he's just not starting material. I'd much rather see Woods out there.

Did you watch the jags game yesterday and see Church get juked out of his shoes a few times and take bad angles?

Heath needs to be benched for Woods asap. Byron is a corner

Heath was never a good option to replace Church.

Yesterday, it was most certainly Sean Lee. It shows you how important he is. We would have won if Lee played.

I said this in the PS he would be missed. You don't take away your leading tackler and not suffer for it. He wasn't Ed Reed, but he could tackle. Lots of gambles this offseason.

Heath has looked bad, but Barry Church wasn't great either. We've needed upgrades at safety for some time now.

I am stupid for thinking Heath could be a decent starter. He's a spot player and special teamer.

I really think we look so bad because there are deficiencies at every level of the defense.

- The DL can't consistently get pressure because the secondary isn't able to cover for long enough to give the DL time to get to the QB.
- The secondary looks like a bunch of scrubs because there isn't a War Daddy who, every game, is able to apply pressure up front (DLaw was pretty invisible yesterday).
- And then, you have LBs who can't cover anybody and is allowing the middle of the field to anybody who wants it. Especially Jaylon Smith  I know he is trying hard, but man! He can't be the best option right now.

If we even had ONE level on the defense that was consistently dominant, I think we could be an above aveage defense. But there are glaring holes everywhere, so it's like trying to keep water out of a boat that has a million little holes in it.

Church was a very good tackler shaky on coverage, Heath is garbage all around. You need to ramp up on your football knowledge.

He's missed because while an average player himself, he's still better than Heath.

They whiffed not bringing in any vet SS this offseason - Church, Swearinger, whomever.

Safeties aren't playing that bad IMO.

It's the linebackers underneath that are just getting abused.
Rams schemed to get at the LBrs with big and crucial plays..........caught us in man coverage on the Gurley post, the big 1st down by Kupp and more.....people hate zone, but teams love our LB'rs in man....pick your poison.

Rod would've loved to go 3 man front with more secondary, but Rams run game took that away.

Ehhh, yes they are. Heath has been abysmal.

Jones, only makes plays, when he's basically playing slot CB and covering a TE or big WR.
