Any chance that the Cowboys signed Hamlin to a one year deal knowing that if he doesn't work out, Polamalu could be available in 08?

Was just listening on ESPN radio talking about the Steelers and their cap. They mentioned Polamalu's contract is up after the season and they might not be able to keep him.

I for one would *crap* myself over a safety tandem like that. Polamalu is a fierce hitter and has a nose for the ball like nobody's business.

The steelers didn't let Hines Ward go, and they're not gonna let Polamalu go.

The cowboys signed Hamlin to a one year deal, becuse they don't know if he can still play 1. and 2 because if watkins comes through, they want to be able to play him without having to cut hamlin

If he learns how to tackle in the next year or so....then Maybe. Until then, no thanks.

Roy & Troy would be a pair of SS that are weak in coverage.

We would basically be running the 3-6 defense.

I hear its great against the run!

That is an ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE IDEA.

Pololalu is bad in coverage and is undersized for the way he plays...besides he is a concussion waiting to happen.

Not only that, but I don't think JJ wants to put all his money into the secondary... goodness! Newman will have to be re-signed at the same time.

Not going to happen w/Troy.

Troy is Roy with more speed. They both are good in run support and spotty in coverage. I really don't see too much different in their games except in how they are used. I think Roy also has accounted for more turnovers than Troy since both have been in the league.

Since 2003 when Polomalu came into the league:

Interceptions
10 Troy
12 Roy

Passes defended
27 Troy
30 Roy

Forced fumbles
4 Troy
6 Roy

Fumbles recovered
2 Troy
4 Roy

Sacks
7 Troy
4.5 Roy

Tackles
301Troy
309 Roy

They play the same position, so to bring in Troy would mean getting rid of Roy. I don't see the point in that.

Troy is also Roy but undersized and a mass of consussions to his previous medical history sheet.

Polomalu had to have a nuerologist check his brain per request of the Pittsburgh Steelers before they drafted him because he had about EIGHT concussions in high school and college. He had another one this year. If he has one more, he might now be cleared to play by the NFL's new concussion policies and whatnot.

I say no NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! Why is that so complicated?

The Steelers would franchise him and I think they still believe in Watkins future.

IMHO Polamalu is one of the most over rated players in the league. Good? Yes. But not All-World like some seem to think.

Another thread about a potential free agent...

Cant we just group all these "what if" threads about getting a new player together somewhere else (maybe a trash can?)?

We just went through this with Ricky Williams and then a week later he fails another test.

What is the problem with discussing guys that we'd like to see on this team?

Why don't you go ahead and a post a lit of approved thread topics then. Would you like another one about Romo and Carrie Underwood? Or how about another one about Bill Parcells not liking T.O.?

Sorry, I obviously did not do enough research. From what I've seen, I thought Troy P was more of a ballhawk than Roy which led me to assume him to be an FS. My bad.

Nothing. But I'm not sure that Polamalu fits into that category.

Williams has an advantage in the numbers then add the fact that he hasn't exactly had Dick Lebeau as a defensive coordinator either.

Even being close when Zimmer never played Williams to his strengths is a testament to who is the better safety.
