Poorest Sportsmanship in Cowboys History

In the aftermath of the Vikings' running up the score last weekend (and with some defending it here), I began to think about other episodes of poor sportsmanship that I have witnessed as a Cowboys fan.

A half dozen come to mind immediately --

1. Albert Haynesworth stomping Gurode's head.

2. James Washington swinging a camera tripod in anger at an opposing player. I think it was against the Giants. That's the worst thing that I remember a Cowboy player doing.

3. Eagles fans cheering as M. Irvin laid motionless on the turf.

4. The Vikings fan throwing a liquor bottle at the head of an official following the Hail Mary play.

5. Buddy Ryan having R. Cunningham throw a last second TD versus the Cowboys in a game the Eagles had already won. Didn't Cunningham fake a kneel down before throwing the pass?

6. 49ers WR T. Owens defacing the star at Texas Stadium

What else have you got? ... does anybody have videos of the above plays?

The Vikings' Duane Clemons punching Flozell Adams in the groin area after a play.

If we are including "fans and media". The Philly reporter spitting on the Star a couple of weeks ago. And pretty much any time we played Conrad Dobler back in the day.

#1 was the M. Irvin play and it's not even close. I'll always hate every Philly fan for this one event.

Monday Night Football - Oct. 2nd, 1978.

Dallas played Washington at Washington.

Fourth quarter and time is running out. Washington is up 9 to 3 and the Commanders have the ball.

But they are deep in their territory and if Dallas can just force a punt, it may be enough for Roger to pull this baby out.

Joe Theisman takes a snap and is alone in the end zone. Randy White breaks free of his blocker and is racing toward Joe with intent to kill.

It is only a matter of seconds before Joe Theisman has a permanent limp.

Just as White is almost within reach Theisman holds up the ball as a taunting gesture and steps out of the back of the end zone.

Dallas gets a safety. Joe keeps his face on his skull. Randy White has to pull up, even though you could tell he wanted to part Theisman's hair for him.

They punt and we cannot score and the game is over.

Final:

Dallas 5

Washington 9.

I remember Harvey Martin getting tossed out of a Giants game just before half time for throwing a Giants player to the ground and then kicking the guy while he was on the ground.

Cmon man, that is the worst show of sportsmanship you got???

Thats good strategy taking a safety, nothing wrong with that. As far as Theisman holding the ball out or raising it above his head or whatever, I see that in almost every game now days.

I vote the worst show of sportsmanship as the Eagles cheering that Irvin was paralyzed (at the time). Thats way more severe than waving the football at somebody as you take a safety.

Okay...different era. Theisman was mocking the Cowboys. The Super Bowl Champs from the year before.

I guess you would have to have been there.

Same here. I've heard Philly fans say they were sad he didn't die. When I hear something like that, that puts them in a class that is below human.

the thought of the Philly fans over the years and of McDancingboy after last year's Eagles slaughter and before our revenge this year, makes the double kill of the Eagles this year very sweet and almost erases the pain of the vikings game

 How about keying Wade in on not calling useless timeouts at the end of a thrashing when the game is practically over...?

George Allen sending spies to tape/watch Cowboys practices.

And Buddy Ryan was a walking, talking pile of poor sportsmanship (and crapola).

On that subject, I have a hard time liking Rex Ryan, just because of who fathered him. Same with Bruce Allen.

I can't believe some here are still crying about an old fashion butt whooping. Don't we play Minn. next season? Let our play on the field do our talking. I have been on both ends of blowouts in competitive sports and when we were on the wrong end of one our coach would not tolerate crying and whining and wringing our hands. I understand fans getting their panties in a wad, but the players allowed it to happen and need to just shut up about it and get them next time.

Ditto...that is the definition of classless.

This year, opening night at home against the giants. Brandon Jacobs runs out after the game and stomps on the star. Only reason I list it, is because I saw it live and wanted to lay him out. I hate that guy more than any other player in the league. I'll never forget him fumbling on the 1 yard line when they were going in for a winning score a few years back. I think Roy Williams hit him.

The very definition of unsportsmanlike conduct, is a fan (like me) who rooted for anybody on the Dallas Cowboys defense to grow a pair after that run up the score TD, and knock the crap out of Favre, taking a possible ejection, then fine, then suspension to do it. Then find some way to run out of bounds right into the body of Brad Classless Childless(I hope) and take him down too.

Maybe I've been watching too much Hockey. GO CAPS!

But seriously, the Cowboys can't be whining about this now. The defense should've done something about it then. Waiting almost a year, kinda takes the sting out of it.

The defense really needs to improve in this 'lose a pair' when things get rough area. They laid down like babies needing their diapers to be changed, once the game got out of hand.

Not impressive. But that's Phillips style. Play not to lose, and roll out the ol' marshmallow truck when push comes to shove. I hope he'll change that this year.

My top two would both involve the eagles. The Irvin injury and the bounty bowl. For a coach to offer his players money to hurt an opposing player in premeditated fashion is just disgusting. Haynesworth would be my third.

Also, and my memory is failing me here so I'm looking for help from Thumper or one of the other old timers. During one of our SBs with Pittsburg, one of the stealers gave one of our players a punch to the kidney area as his back was turned and he was walking back to the huddle. I believe that the stealers were not called for a single foul during the entire game, including that incident.
