Well, it's clear to me that Jerry has no desire to add ET to this roster. However, our D cannot continue the way they play and expect to be successful. So, using https://nfltraderumors.co/top-25-2020-nfl-free-agents-list/, I have found some possible players that may be useful for us to bring in. I know some of you may not agree with this list, but I see the players I list here as potentially better than what we've currently got....not that that's hard to accomplish atm.

  1. S Damarious Randall - here are his stats. He's previously played with McCarthy. Also, he's 28. Not a bad age for a safety. I think we could use him.

These are 3 examples of players that I've found on the link I saw that may be able to help our D, and I hope Jerry will look into them.

What's the point?
None of the players mentioned, or anybody else, is some Earl Thomas, et al in his prime, or even close to it. At best they are marginally better than what we have.

Adding more average talent to an already average talent defense isn't going to help. The players we have have to get better, or be replaced in the draft, or in free agency NEXT year, IF another Jamal Adams or such is available, and the Cowboys can afford him...

I know they're marginally better, but hey, my thinking is at least we have to try.

So get people who had zero time with the Cowboys, to replace people who've had camp and 3 games? Not for me, though I understand your point, it's a valid course of action. But to me it seems like panicking after 3 games, we knew this team would take time to gel (if it ever does of course, no guarantee there). 3 games is not enough, would have helped if we'd not lost McCoy, Lee, Jarwin and so forth so early in the year.

That'd just be like starting over with game one, again. Imho it's better to ride this out for a few more games, if we get to like 1-6 or such, then get new players and they do better, that would just knock us down in the draft position. This team needs top talent, like Lamb-level talent, in the draft, if we can't get to the point of being legit SB contenders with who we have, I'd rather just go for the better draft position...

Fair point. Let's see how everyone develops. I know this team needs time to gel, and I was expecting that. I just sort of saw these players as band aids to help our defence a bit more. The thing is, I fully expect us to make the playoffs. I think we'll win our division. The problem is, we'll get humiliated once we get to the playoffs with this D unless it improves. That's why I was wanting a bandaid for our secondary for the rest of the season.

Our secondary folk may not be all that talented, but with the non-existent pass rush (except for Smith) it's hard to tell. And there's no way to tell, but I suspect if Awuzie had been in there Lockett probably wouldn't have done quite so well, Awuzie is more talented, at least some, and could direct the defense better.

People were all concerned about Wilson's running, but he mostly didn't, my gosh how long did he stand there on one late game play without hardly moving? 15 seconds? In other games it was noted the opposing quarterback threw quickly, and that was used as the reason there was no pass rush, but that wasn't the case with Wilson time after time.

Didn't get to see all the game, was on vacation, but did Carr play at all? He's a 12 year vet, played cornerback almost all that time, surely he can read offensive formations better than some rookie like Robertson....

That's fair, and Awuzie could have helped. He does have, I believe, our only interception. I think Carr played a little bit.

And I know, Carr's almost certainly slower than the rookies, he's probably there to be a backup, never was intended to be a starter...

Randall would be pretty redundant with Brandon Carr, but I wouldn't mind him as depth.

I'm actually surprised that Bradham is still a FA, but he's pretty terrible against the pass.

Dareus sucks.

We could use depth with Randall, and Bradham could at least help us with the run D.

Depth isn't a problem, especially once Chido and Brown are back.

The run D has mostly been fine.

Cowboys 27th in the league in run defense. give up an average of 127 a game. Can't say that's "mostly" fine...

Total yards doesn't matter. They're T-7 in ypc.

So yes, mostly fine.

Whether you run for a high ypc and get 127 yards or run for a low ypc and get 127 yards, that's still too many yards, Steelers are giving up 54 yards a game, now I don't expect Dallas to get to that, they don't have the DTs for it, but 100 a game is considered average, need to get to better than that before I'd say the run defense is "mostly" fine..

Total yards doesn't matter because it is just a product of game score and third down %. Both of those are dictated by the passing game.

If Dallas could get stops on third down - where teams throw - the rushing totals would be significantly better. We saw it over and over again against LAR and SEA

They should be looking at all these guys. I know they have these discussions but i'd like to hear the reasoning behind staying put with whom we have. Is it age or cost? Nothing wrong with working out a few guys, it would send a message even if we do not sign them. Don't let these guys get complacent with losing, it is not ok.
