Why would he go from Browns to the NFC equivalent? Garrett's getting paid, and he's got a NTC, there's a lot more attractive locations that'll give him what he wants....a ring.Remember this is my OP?
Note II: I'm not sure if you heard, but Garrett was upset after losing on Sunday, despite having 5 sacks. Say he's tired of losing. (Could he demand a trade after the season..... something to keep an eye on)
I'm not the only one keeping an eye on Garrett's situation in Cleveland. It just makes sense... they are in the process of another rebuild and still don't have a legit QB. Garrett doesn't have 3-4 years left playing at the current level.

Why It Might Be Time for the Browns to Consider Trading Myles Garrett
Cleveland could turbocharge its rebuild by dealing the veteran defensive end. Plus, Tucker Kraft’s ascendance for the Packers and more from around the league.

A potential trade is about what’s best for the Browns, the timeline for their rebuild and Garrett’s career timeline (just to be clear, the team has been steadfast in saying it won’t trade him).
So, now is the time to lean into their strategy. For argument’s sake, let’s say the Browns could get two first-round picks, a 2026 second-round pick and a ’27 third-round pick for Garrett. In that scenario, Cleveland would have three first-round picks and two second-rounders in ’26, and a total of 10 picks in the first five rounds, and two first-rounders and five picks in the first three rounds of the ’27 draft.
Add that to the core the Browns are starting to build with the 2025 class, and they’re looking at an opportunity to be firing on all cylinders by ’27 or ’28
So, in the midst of a lost season, this would be the time to make the move. Garrett’s still at the top of his game. There’d be a big market for him, with a contract that’s relatively manageable with his bonus money paid out (his base salary for the rest of the year is at the veteran minimum, and he’s due $73.2 million over the next two years). Yes, there’d be a cap acceleration that’d be tough to swallow (around $45 million) for Cleveland, but if there’s a time to take that sort of medicine, I’d argue that it’s probably now.
No hes not. He's literally the opposite of Ryan. He runs the stupid outdated Tampa 2/Maranelli defense.Eberflus is Rob Ryan guy. He came to the Cowboys with Ryan from Cleveland when Ryan was hired as our DC.
Personally I don't care if you keep or fire Eberflus. Nothing will change so long as you draft poorly on defense and make moves right before the season that wrecks your defense.Jerry is gonna bring eberflus back. Hes gonna use the excuse of not wanting to change coordinators again for a 4th year. Book it. 2026 will be another wasted season.
Three teams, I think, would go hard after him .........Commanders, Eagles and BillsWhy would he go from Browns to the NFC equivalent? Garrett's getting paid, and he's got a NTC, there's a lot more attractive locations that'll give him what he wants....a ring.
The one aspect about Micah, that we somewhat overlook, is that he did ask/suggest that Jerry sort out his contract early and then build his Defense around it......Jerry baulked probably at the idea of having to commit to putting a competitive Defense AND PAY FOR THAT ELITE PLAYER.....in Jerry World (especially on Defense) it's either/or.
Maybe Schotty will take a correspondence course this offseason on how to be a grown up HC.And what's the first thing he does. Get bigger guys in and switch to a 3-4 base. In a few months he has one of the best DEF's
Also that Not Trade Clause he has pretty much guarantees that he won't be coming to the Cowboys. No one who wants to win a SB is looking at Dallas as a destination to do that.Three teams, I think, would go hard after him .........Commanders, Eagles and Bills
***Per several nuggets, the Commanders were prepared to go all out for a trade before he changed his mind and signed the current extension. Their owner, Harris, had given the green light. Word is, Harris and Magic Johnson have instructed their people to do whatever it takes to win a Super Bowl while Daniel is on his rookie contract.
***Eagles were also a stronger contender for a trade but I don't know if Howie can pull it coz of Garrett's contract. Jalen Carter needs a new deal next year
***Bills are desperately trying to find an elite defensive playmaker every year to help Josh Allen win a Super Bowl.
All three teams would easily give the Browns two 1st round picks
It's early, but here are 6 names I can see Jerry considering .......... familiarity and/or strong postseason experience are huge factors IMO.
*** Al Harris.....Defensive passing coordinator/back, Bears... no defensive coordinator experience.
***Brian Flores...Vikings defensive coordinator. Contract expires at the end of the season. He will likely resign with the Vikes IMO. But their season could go south coz they have serious QB issues after IRing Wentz.
Brian Flores' defensive scheme is a complex, aggressive, and versatile system that blends multiple philosophies to confuse offenses, frequently employing heavy blitzes and pressure from unusual alignments. Key elements include "heavy" fronts with extra rushers (six or seven-man pressure), disguised coverage looks (like showing a blitz but dropping players into coverage), and a heavy usage of sub-packages, especially with multiple safeties on the field
***Wink Martindale....Defensive coordinator, Michigan ( one GM called him a blitzing madman). Similar to the former late Eagle DC, Jim Johnson.
Wink Martindale's defensive scheme is known for its aggressive, blitz-heavy approach with heavy use of pre-snap disguise and man coverage. Key features include creating pressure through creative blitz packages, often by overloading one side of the line, and playing a high percentage of man-to-man coverage in the secondary. This requires defensive backs to be able to hold up against receivers one-on-one for extended periods, with the scheme creating a "give and take" where pressure is prioritized over pass coverage, but coverage must be solid when pressure doesn't get there quickly
***Ron Rivera......General Manager with the California Bears. He is a Jim Johnson disciple but runs a zone-based scheme, similar to Eberflus
Ron Rivera's defensive scheme is primarily a zone-based scheme that relies on a four-man front, though he has also used a 3-4 alignment and incorporates elements of man-to-man coverage. It typically features a four-lineman rush with seven players dropping into coverage, with Cover 3 and Quarters zone being frequently used. The scheme prioritizes sound fundamental play and a dominant defensive line, but can be vulnerable to explosive plays due to its reliance on zone looks
*** Leslie Frazier....Seahawks assistant head coach. Tony Dungy disciple who runs a variation of Tampa 2
Leslie Frazier's defensive scheme is primarily a nickel-heavy system that relies on a strong front four to generate pressure, while the back seven plays mostly zone coverage, though it has the ability to blitz and play man. Key elements include utilizing five or more defensive backs frequently, particularly a versatile slot corner, and a tendency for aggressive pre-snap looks and post-snap adjustments (audibles and checks)
*** Jim Schwartz...Browns' defensive coordinator. He may or may not be available, but he has a history of quickly turning around bad defenses, similar to Wade Phillips.
Jim Schwartz's defensive scheme is a traditional 4-3 base with a "wide-9" alignment that uses aggressive, man-heavy coverage and aims to create pressure with its front seven. Key elements include using stunts and twists from the defensive line, playing aggressive man-to-man coverage in the secondary, and a focus on stopping the run. This approach is designed to be relatively simple pre-snap to confuse offenses and allows his elite defensive linemen to create pressure and his defensive backs to play tightly on receivers
Jim Schwartz is a highly regarded defensive coordinator and was very effective with the Eagles. Eagles consistently had a top-5 run defense and pass rush that consistently overachieved relative to injuries they had at defensive tackle\
Note; He signed with the Browns before 2023 but nothing was released about his contract. Generally speaking, the standard is that coordinators usually sign 3-year deals while head coaches sign 5. This could mean he's in the final year of his contract. He could also be fired along with the head coach......The Browns are headed for another top 5 draft pick.
Note II: Not sure if you heard but Garrett was ticked off after losing Sunday, although he had 5 sacks. Say he's tired of losing. (Could he demand a trade after the season..... something to keep an eye on)
There is actually some truth here IMO.....any defensive coordinator can look pretty good if you give him four 1st and two 2nd round new defensive players, including Eberflus. If we are being honest, he is now working with at least 6-7 players who are not starting material.Personally I don't care if you keep or fire Eberflus. Nothing will change so long as you draft poorly on defense and make moves right before the season that wrecks your defense.
Actually....I see it a bit differently. All coordinators certainly wanna win a Super Bowl but most want their own team (as head coach ) also. IMO, Dallas is a very attractive option for any defensive coordinator for several reasonsAlso that Not Trade Clause he has pretty much guarantees that he won't be coming to the Cowboys. No one who wants to win a SB is looking at Dallas as a destination to do that.
Rusty ...I would stand on the table, Schwartz. He has had an immediate impact/improvement at every stop, according to the little digging and research I did. My only concern is that he can be a jerk....... tends to rub some the wrong or not everyone's cup of tea, similar to Rex Ryan.Give me Al Harris of Schwartz, or, here's an idea that Jerry's mind simply can't comprehend. Let Schotty choose the DC.
